Re: Adrian Peterson needs to stop talking to the media
If AD talks himself out of MN, I sure hope Rickie can make a good deal. But then Im never sure when AD is serious or not. Humility isn't one of his strong points, and if the Cowboys were to stroke it, a lot, who know what may happen.
Re: Adrian Peterson needs to stop talking to the media
How about people just stop putting so much emphasis and over-analysis into every little thing a player says? It's not like he's whining about playing or saying anything offensive. I would have to try really hard to find offence in the quote mentioned, so I think I'm just not going to go through the effort of doing that.

Re: Adrian Peterson needs to stop talking to the media
When a player says "I'm going to gain 2500 yards." or "I'm going to break the single season sack record." it gets every bit as much attention. There's a reason why players and coaches and GMs are interviewed and quoted. It's for out entertainment and analysis.
Seems the people on the board most "offended" are the ones constantly defending anything said or done by a player that gets even the most offhand criticism.

Yes, it's to generate ratings, site hits, newspaper and magazine sales, etc. It's for our entertainment and analysis but it's also to keep us "tuned in", especially in the offseason, when fans are more likely to tune out.Eli wrote:When a player says "I'm going to gain 2500 yards." or "I'm going to break the single season sack record." it gets every bit as much attention. Has it occurred to you that perhaps it's the careless nature of offhand criticism that tends to draw criticism or dismissal in return?Seems the people on the board most "offended" are the ones constantly defending anything said or done by a player that gets even the most offhand criticism.

If you leave the baby in a hot car, that's careless.
If you leave a campfire smoldering, that's careless.
Saying Adrian Peterson is someone who needs to shut up and just play football is not careless.

Sigh... see below for why I used that word and pick another synonym if it suits you but the point is the reactions you're getting to your posts have everything to do with the nature of what you're posting and the attitude behind it.Eli wrote:If you leave the baby in a hot car, that's careless.

You went beyond saying Peterson should shut up and play football. In this thread you have him "starting to come apart", "starting to think about this way too much" and seemingly revealing his "deepest fears". You started psychoanalyzing him from a distance in an "offhand" manner and then decided to gripe about people here who, according to you, are "constantly defending anything said or done by a player that gets even the most offhand criticism" because most of us weren't coming with you on those leaps you were making.off·hand

Oh, please. Psychoanalyzing him? Get real.
Peterson obviously sees now where his career is headed ... either wasting away with the Vikings, being dealt or cut due to his salary, maybe spending the last few years playing in front of his family down in Texas (which sounds like his dream). As he approaches 30, with all of the press speculating about his future, he's thinking about it and commenting on it constantly now.

There's another comment on his state of mind... you seem to know it awfully well.Peterson obviously sees now where his career is headed ... either wasting away with the Vikings, being dealt or cut due to his salary, maybe spending the last few years playing in front of his family down in Texas (which sounds like his dream). Peterson is being asked about his future constantly so naturally, he's commenting on it. He's also said, many times, that he'd love to spend the rest of his career with the Vikings and win a championship with them. He's smart enough to realize the nature of the business and that there are other possibilities and he's honest enough to express his thoughts regarding those possibilities but that doesn't mean he sees things as you just described. Of course, leave it to one of the board's most visible cynics to post the paragraph above and neglect to even acknowledge the possibility that Peterson's career could actually be headed in a positive direction with the Vikings over the next few years or that one of the many paths his career could take is to renegotiate his contract with the Vikings and win in Minnesota.
Is it any wonder that a board full of Vikings fans has so many people who don't want to go on these grim little journeys with you?

Sure, those are possibilities. He could get hit by a meteor as well.Mothman wrote:the possibility that Peterson's career could actually be headed in a positive direction with the Vikings over the next few years or that one of the many paths his career could take is to renegotiate his contract with the Vikings and win in Minnesota.

Whats wrong with him saying what he wants, hes an MVP. Better than the generic answers you hear 24/7
The term fan comes from FANatic or fanatical.

No kidding. People (loudly) criticized Frazier for his "coachspeak" answers. Now a Viking gives something of "substance" (if you can call the former league MVP, first-ballot Hall of Famer who had the second best rushing season in NFL history calling himself the best running back a substantive comment) and he's being blasted for it? There was absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. Dear Lord we need the season to get here.Mercy Percy wrote:Whats wrong with him saying what he wants, hes an MVP. I don't mind what he said about the Texas teams. I think any of us that grew up following the Vikes and got picked up by Dallas would still be eager to play for the Vikes. It just shows a love for the game.Demi wrote: He's also not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
