Good coaching and patience may give us a franchise caliber quarterback in the near future.

Wilson, RGIII, Luck, Newton, Eli, Peyton, Flacco, Big Ben, Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, Alex Smith, Andy Dalton all started the majority of their teams games their rookie season, none of them were "ruined". It's more likely Carr just wasn't a good player, whether he started day one, or three years late. Same with Ponder, he wasn't "ruined" because he was rushed into a game his rookie season, he was ruined before that, and no amount of babying and kids gloving him along was going to improve him enough to make a difference.Tark10 wrote:Hopefully the coaches will bring Teddy along slowly. I agree about starting him before he is ready. Ponder got pushed into service with no training camp an an idiot for an OC. This year will tell me a whole lot if Ponder comes out learns the system and excells. If not, TB will get his chance probably sooner than later. I hope that it is not too soon.

Re: Teddy Bridgewater
In his defense, Carr was put behind a horrid offensive line and got sacked a ton which could ruin anybody. Don't se the same thing happening with Teddy. I agree that Cassel ought to start this year and Ponder backs him up with Teddy as third string unless he beats out PonderSuperfreak84 wrote: Kind of like how we weren't making the playoffs after a 3-13 season and Christian Ponder as our QB

Ponder didn't play until week 6. No training camp? He couldn't pick it up by week 6 of the regular season? Wait, no, the earthworm probably couldn't...he hasn't picked it up by 30+ starts.

Re: Teddy Bridgewater
Ponder couldn't even excel in Musgrave's system. No way he excels in Norv's unless Musgrave's was just "too easy" for him.Purple bruise wrote:

Wow, that really makes a lot of sense. Which QB has excelled in Musgrave's system pray tellWebbfann wrote: Ponder couldn't even excel in Musgrave's system. No way he excels in Norv's unless Musgrave's was just "too easy" for him.

Re: Teddy Bridgewater
No doubt. Norv's is supposed to be more complicated. With more vertical stuff. Ponder has no vertical game. Past 10 yards he's one of the worst QBs in the league. Too bad the rest of the QBs in the NFL couldn't throw a third of their passes behind the line of scrimmage, or they'd have people thinking they could play in the NFL too.Webbfann wrote: Ponder couldn't even excel in Musgrave's system. Oh he's got a vertical game alright. He just gets jersey colors mixed up beyond the line of scrimmageDemi wrote:

When the regular season starts, the starting quarterback takes 98% of the reps, which is why training camp is so vital. Just sayin...

Plus, teams do a lot of the installation of their offense during the offseason, leading up to camp, and then reinforce what they're doing in camp and practice. Look at what the Vikings are doing right now: learning Turner's offense.
Re: Teddy Bridgewater
Two months on the team learning the playbook and working with the team wasn't enough? Was he just standing there during practices? Told to go hit the weights while everyone else worked? He couldn't have it figured it out over a third of the way into the season? How was having him sit before a veteran QB for 5 weeks being "pushed" into anything?
Cam did just fine despite being started week 1 after the same complete lack of an offseason. And Ponder was suppose to be the smart multiple degrees earned early nfl ready blah blah blah. Maybe he just needed 3 NFL seasons to get it together.

Hey do any of you know where to find the full Bridgewater Gruden QB camp segment? There's like a 4 minute bit on youtube but I can't seem to find the full version.
