With Bridgewater's frame, I wouldn't be quite so worried about cumulative hits. I'd be more worried about that one big hit that could snap him like a twig.

Sigh... the point of that post about Ponder's rookie season was that a number of detrimental factors MAY have hindered his development right from the start or even left him as "damaged goods". Since the Vikings once again have a rookie QB who could end up playing, and since they are coming off a year where their defense was awful (again), the concept seems relevant and worthy of discussion. There's already been plenty of talk about whether Bridgewater will, or should, play this season. It doesn't seem completely out of left field to look back and consider the last time the Vikings were in this situation and how the state of the team and the choices they made may have affected their young QB.

They may have to make a decision about playing Bridgewater this season and while I know optimism is running high right now, we don't know what the season will bring, how the o-line or defense will perform, etc. If Cassel ends up as the starter and gets injured, the coaching staff is going to consider some of these same factors and whether they feel it's best to play Bridgewater sooner or later.

If you look at his college stats he played at his ceiling in the NFL. He did his best with what he had. No knock against him, but he just wasn't a quality started in the NFL.

Thanks for this. I like the article and the reasoning behind it. I also enjoyed the tapes of Bridgewater playing for Louisville.

The few times I've seen Bridgewater play on TV I have always admired his coolness under fire and his ability to find a way to smartly make a play happen. He never seems out of control. I hope that positive dynamic will show itself in pro ball, what with Turner's scheme and the coaching.

I believe this was bridgewater's first pass attempt against Florida



Bridgewater went on to throw 2 touchdowns, 266 yards, the team went 9-14 on 3rd downs and upset Florida in the sugar bowl.

I'm not saying this is proof that he'll be a great QB. Of course the effect of cumulative hits could still be a factor that could ultimately effect any QBs game but Bridgewater has demonstrated courage and toughness in quite a few of his college games and shows good pocket presence. He just doesn't throw a great deep ball yet.

This is what worries me about TB. His accuracy goes way down further down the field he goes from what I have seen. "Having" to wear a glove for whatever reasons worries me a little. But I do like his quick release and that can go a long way in this league.

Teddy was 215 lbs at the combine, so I don't think his size is as big a deal as people are making it out to be. I think Aaron Rodgers is about the same size. Ideally Teddy would be about 220-225, but I'm not sure that's something that any of us should be too worried about.

Hopefully the coaches will bring Teddy along slowly. This team isn't going to the playoffs this year anyway. The Texans ruined David Carr by pushing him in to service too soon. Numerous other guys were pressed in to service when they weren't ready. Let Cassel start and have Ponder backing him up this year. Who knows, Ponder may shine enough to help the team this year. Good coaching and patience may give us a franchise caliber quarterback in the near future.
