I know a lot of people were on board (myself included) in taking Watkins if he were around but what about Evans? I think there's a relatively good possibility he's there at #8 (especially if the top 3 OTs are picked). Some will say it's a luxury pick but Evans, Jennings, and Patterson is a very intriguing trio. Add in Rudolph and Peterson and you have a lot of talent at the skill position to help mask your QB issue.

I can see the Vikings taking Evans and taking a big arm QB in the 2nd (Mett, Carr, etc.), allowing Turner to really stretch the field. Of course this means the defense won't be addressed until the 3rd at earliest, which presents problems, but with the QB grades all over the map, I wouldn't be too surprised if this scenario played out. Low odd scenario but thought I'd mention it since I don't think it's been brought up.
I would definitely be on board with Mike Evans if he were available - I just don't see it happening. Man, Greg in the slot, Evans at the Z and Patterson at the X would be an insane wide receiving group.

I was actually going to bring up a scenario the other day, but I felt stupid for thinking about brining it up. I was just wondering if Minnesota would consider drafting Eric Ebron at all. I am a big Kyle Rudolph fan, but Ebron brings a whole different skill set to an offense. Ebron's vertical game would open up a whole new way to exploit Norv Turner's offense.

I hope not. Of course, if he turns out to be the next Tom Brady, I hope so. :o

More fuel to the Donald fire.

Aaron Donald - DL - Player

NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah is "hearing" the Vikings are eyeing Pittsburgh DT Aaron Donald at No. 8.

SI's Peter King passed along similar sentiments Monday morning. Per King, the Vikings are in search of a "front-seven disruptor." Donald certainly fits the bill, but may not fall to No. 8.

Is he "hearing" it from peter King? ;)

I'll bet Sharrif Floyd doesn't want to hear that.

Zach Mettenberger - QB - Player

Profootballtalk reports LSU QB Zach Mettenberger "generated a dilute urine sample" at the Combine.

In the eyes of the NFL, it's a failed test. Mettenberger’s physical therapist claims it was the result of his attempts to stave off dehydration as he rehabbed from his torn ACL. Per the therapist, Mettenberger was drinking over a gallon of water per day after "experiencing frequent muscle cramping." Teams will be unlikely to buy that excuse. It's a red flag for a day-two prospect.

FWIW, Dane Brugler (CBS) and Evan Silva (Rotoworld) also have the Vikings taking Donald at #8. That was before King's column came out this morning.

Peter Schrager (Fox) added this on twitter:

Multiple people at teams now saying Vikings love Aaron Donald at 8. "Zim's a defensive guy"....Linval Joseph, Floyd, Donald at DT? Nice trio

if he did drink that amount of water then a diluted test is clearly not out of the realm of possibility. what they should do is retest him as soon as possible to find out. a gallon of water a day is a ton. worst comes to worst, we pick him up in the 6th round. i agree if we go defense it better be a lb or cb, our d-line is the last area that needs addressed floyd just needs to step up his game and they will be fine.

I saw this on Fox Sports 1 and it turns out that Timmy Jernigan also had a diluted sample at the combine. This will probably result in him falling down the board quite a bit. Also this basically eliminates the possibility that we draft Mettenberger in the 2nd round and we might decide to not draft him at all.

well the Vikings pursued Melton and didn't land him...and now there are rumors (albeit totally unsubstantiated) that they are interested in Donald.

Obviously there is no proof and this is rampant speculation, but I just can't shake this uneasy feeling that Zimmer just doesn't like what he sees in Floyd. Short arms, lack of passion....who knows?

I know he loves DL but do they really need 3 highly paid DT?

I think this is just the Vikings saying "oh hey look! We're really interested in this guy wink wink so if you want to trade up into our #8 spot it better be worth it for us to give it up!"

It's possible we do really like Donald, but I have a hard time believing it would "slip" out into the public that easily if we didn't purposely want it out there.

I don't believe that is the case. I mean Floyd hasn't even been given a chance to prove himself. I think the Vikings want to trade down. I would if I was Spielman. He always says that his goal every year is to have 10+ draft picks and a trade here could get him to that and give him ammo to move back into the end of the 1st. I think this is nothing but a smokescreen.

As mentioned before, Spielman hardly ever allows what he is doing to leak out. I mean we literally had zero connection to Harrison Smith in 2012 until we drafted him. There was never anything leaked about us drafting Rhodes or Patterson either. Nobody ever knew Spielman was THAT in love with CP (obviously for good reasons).

We were constantly linked to Manti Teo, Arthur Brown, Sylvester Williams, Desmond Trufant, Alec Ogletree, Justin Hunter, etc. last year and never drafted a single one of them. Nobody knew Floyd would fall as far as he did, Rhodes was rarely linked to us, and Patterson wasn't suppose to slide past 13-15.

Bottom line is, I don't believe a damn thing I hear until the draft pick is made. Mark my words, the Vikings will surprise us at #8.
