Bradford to the Vikes?
Sam Bradford - QB - Rams
Appearing on CBS Sports' 920 The Morning After show Monday, Jason La Canfora stated "people in the league" believe the Rams and Vikings have discussed a Sam Bradford trade.
"There are people in the league who believe there have been discussions with the Vikings," said La Canfora, who in mid-April penned a column hypothetically suggesting Bradford could be traded. "Rams people have denied any conversations whatsoever," La Canfora allowed, making it clear St. Louis would only entertain the Bradford-trade idea if they drafted a quarterback. Perhaps the biggest obstacle in the way of a Bradford deal is his contract. Arguably the most overpaid player in football today, Bradford is owed a $14.015 million salary. His deal would almost certainly have to be restructured for a trade to be worked out.

Because people have asked… The #Rams have not talked about trading Sam Bradford with anybody. Hasn’t happened #Sigh

Re: Bradford to the Vikes?
I can see some validity to it if the Rams use one of their two first-rounders on a QB. I wouldn't pay Bradford $14 million, though. I still think he can be a solid QB. Certainly better than anybody the Vikings have had on the roster for a long time (Favre excluded).80 PurplePride 84 wrote:La Canfora is a hack and a rumor monger.

Re: Bradford to the Vikes?
It would cause another QB circus for this year. Having 3 guys in Cassel, Ponder, and Bradford all with multimillion dollar deals + the rookie QB we are all expecting to be drafted this year would create controversy and would be taking up an important roster spot. Cassel is our starter, Ponder is in the top half of the league as far as a backup, and our rookie can be 3rd string until he proves he's ready for the job.
Re: Bradford to the Vikes?
Not that I think a trade is likely to happen but I don't think it would cause a circus at all. If anything, it would probably bring the depth chart at the position into sharper focus. Bradford would be the starter, Cassel would move to the backup spot and Ponder would either be cut in favor of a rookie 3rd string QB or retained as the #3 QB (maybe they'd let him compete with Cassel for the primary backup spot). The "rookie QB we are all expecting to be drafted this year" would probably be drafted in the third round or later, if they drafted him at all ("later" seems likely).AP_AD28 wrote:It would cause another QB circus for this year. Again, I don't believe the trade is likely but if they made that move, there's no doubt it would be to install Bradford as their starter.

Who cares...this is big boy football. Open tryouts among the 4 QBs, cut one vet when obvious not going to be starter or #2. Go into season with 2 solid QBs and a QB of the future.AP_AD28 wrote:It would cause another QB circus for this year. Vikes should do the trade in a heart beat.
Step1...Rams restructure Bradford's deal
Step 2...trade happens on draft day, probably at #8 with Rams drafting their QB
Step 3...Vikes still have exact same draft as they would...draft D with #13 and QB of future on day 2
Re: Bradford to the Vikes?
Bradford is 26 years old. If they traded for him, it would almost certainly be with the idea that he would BE their QB of the future.rugbyrugger23 wrote: Who cares...this is big boy football. Re: Bradford to the Vikes?
In a perfect world that is exactly how this trade would pan out for Vikes. When I say QB of future, and I think almost anyone when they use that term, not referring to age, but rather drafting and grooming QB of choice.Mothman wrote: Bradford is 26 years old. Re: Bradford to the Vikes?
You dont just restructure a deal at the drop of a hat. Bradford has no more guaranteed money, and hes very unlikely to take a paycut to be backup for whomever the Rams draft in that situation.Who cares...this is big boy football. Also, moving back 5 spots from 8 to 13 costs WAY more than a Sam Bradford fresh off an ACL injury, who may not even start if he were to come to the Vikings.
And how much more open competition do you want? Thats what we did last year and it was a mess...Ponder in for the first few weeks, then Cassel, then Ponder, then Freeman, then Cassel again. Is that how it should be?

Re: Bradford to the Vikes?
I agree and I would like to see what he would have done under the conditions that Viking QBs faced with (coaches, receivers, offensive line). I would not want to give up anything for him, this is all a made up pipe dream that no one with either the Rams or Vikings have most likely even talked about. Can the draft get here soon enoughLash Man wrote:Just say NO he's marginally better than what we have already .

Re: Bradford to the Vikes?
Okay as much as I like Ponder and after I just said I would not give up anything for Bradford, I would trade Ponder for Bradford in a heartbeat. For nothing else other than to give Ponder a new start. The Rams would never agree to that trade AND I bet that you are just "kidding" anyway, right.fiestavike wrote: What if they traded Ponder for Bradford? Anyone interested if thats the deal?

Re: Bradford to the Vikes?
All this stuff is interesting (although I don't think Bradford is better then Cassel, just younger) I don't believe any of it.

My aunt's neighbor's mechanic who once dated a Rams groundskeeper's sister just tweeted that it's true!

For a #1, no way. For a #2 pick probably.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.
