As much as I would like to dream about this. Not gonna happen.

We lucked out with Randy Moss, Adrian Peterson dropping to us. Can't imagine this happening again. This Clowney kid is going to rewrite the sack record....IN HIS ROOKIE YEAR!

You are joking right :?: I would bet that JJ Watt might disagree with you. Over 22 sacks is the record and he won't come close to that.

Tony Pauline @TonyPauline
Word from several sources; Minnesota Vikings heavily leaning towards Zach Mettenberger/QB/LSU in 2nd, looking for LB (Khalil Mack/UB) in 1st
I would be all for this. However, I'm not sure how true it is. Spielman rarely allows anything to leak about what they are doing in the draft.

This after Zimmer's comments. They must be targeting Manziel!

From @thebiglead and @JasonLisk, only 38% of 1st rd picks from 99-08 were a starter on original team 6 yrs later

I can't say that surprises me but it's a somewhat sobering statistic.

I'm sure it's all due to the incompetence of NFL GMs. ;)

QBs have fared a little better than I would have expected!

I'm not sure there's any sort of conclusion to be drawn from that data. Looking at the positions most found at the bottom, why are they there? Unsuccessful picks that wash out? Great picks that jump at a chance for free agency? Positions that are highly valued in trades from other teams? Or maybe even a lot of late-round draft fliers that had little chance of making it?

I think the key word there being the original team. We've seen lots of guys go on to other teams for larger contracts. Add in starters that play for another team and that percentage has to go up. I don't know by how much but I think another 12%, bringing the total to 50% is highly plausible.

Oh for sure! A rookie deal is what, like 4 years I think? So certainly 6 years in a player is on their 2nd contract and that may very well be with another team that paid them. I actually feel that 38% after 6 years seems kind of high!

An interesting perspective:
@JoshNorris: Mr. @McShay13 points to my (and others) main question with Gilbert: Tightness when forced to turn and some COD. I know many have Gilbert as a top two CB in this draft, including many respected evaluators. I would unquestionably prefer Verrett or Fuller
@SigmundBloom @JoshNorris we're seeing eye to eye here - CBs that anticipate throws/routes, confront receivers, challenge at catch point, dictate action

Cool, glad I'm not the only one that isn't sold on Gilbert. I don't think the guy will be terrible, but I don't think he's the best CB in the draft. Verrett or Fuller might make it to the second round, which would be great.

My new ideal draft:

-Rams trade down with Browns getting 4th and 26th for 2nd.

-Rams see Matthews fall to 8th, so trade 13 and 26 to Vikes for 8th and 4th rounder.

Vikes Select:

#13: Justin Gilbert-CB

#26: CJ Mosley-ILB

And with Carr still on board, Vikes jump ahead of teams who need a QB high in 2nd round, trade 2nd, 3rd, 3rd (from Seattle) to Patriots for...

#29: Derek Carr-QB

Remaning picks draft BPA for depth.

NFL draft insider Tony Pauline reports LSU's Zach Mettenberger is the Vikings' "signal caller of choice" in May's draft.
Pauline expects the Vikings to draft a linebacker at No. 8 overall, ideally Buffalo's Khalil Mack, and to target a quarterback in round two. Minnesota holds the No. 40 pick, where Mettenberger is tentatively expected to be available. A big-armed pocket passer, Mettenberger is considered a "perfect fit" for new OC Norv Turner's vertical attack. Mettenberger is holding his Pro Day this week.

I like Mett the most out of all the tier 2 guys. I could see him as the 2nd round choice although if there's a big run on QB's early, he might be had later.
