I was thinking today after hearing the reports that Manziel had a good pro day that there was no way for that to work out well for the Vikings. Good pro day and he gets drafted before they pick, bad pro day and he falls to the Vikings, but they don't want him after a poor showing. Either way they don't pick him.

I think some of you may be putting too much stock in the impact a pro day can have on a player's draft position.

Go read up about some other QBs who put on an awesome pro day. Theres a few in this thread that not a single poster would want near the Vikings.

I was serious. He runs like a wounded chicken and just looked like an NFL disaster waiting to happen. Those passes he completes on his wild turkey trots around the backfield will be intercepted in the NFL. Thats just my first impression from watching what are supposed to be his impressive plays; doesn't mean I've seen everything or know everything. I just didn't see much that impressed me. He was exciting I suppose but I didn't see any highlights showing off composure.

No matter what the Vikings do, I appreciate them doing their homework. I believe that it will pay off this time. I surely hope it does all fall in place, and the Vikings field a long term answer at QB. And really, I would be fine with Cassel. Not saying that I think he is, but you never know. That being said it would be great to have a dynamic QB, a mix of Farve and Tarkenton, if you will. If Manziel has that kind of ceiling, I am all for taking him. If that is what most see, he will never make it to pick #8.

Don't hate on my Buckeyes. Some of the best Vikings went to Ohio State.

I think Cassel playing better than average under Norv won't be a surprise at all. He could very well play out the next two years as the new regime massages the next QB of the future.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

I agree completely. I think Cassel can be in the upper 80's in QB rating with Norv. Maybe even low 90's (the rules are so tilted towards the pass offense these days). I'm not saying he'll be the next Peyton Manning, but I think he'll be in the Matt Ryan/Joe Flacco territory (at least my perception of them) if he and his offensive teammates stay reasonably healthy.

A Joe Flacco Matt Ryan equal, I could see that.

No to a QB with our first pick. I hope we go LB.

I voted to draft Manziel, then felt sort of wobbly on the idea, but since the pro day work out that sounds to have gone very well, I decided I am all in on him, draft him if available. I read this at the ESPN write up on his workout, probably this really doesn't mean much, coaches typically don't want to telegraph what they are thinking about players -

The team personnel in attendance were nearly unanimous in their praise. Nearly. Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, who will meet with Manziel individually, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the workout was "different" and called it a "sideshow."

Loved Gannon and hated it when we lost him.

Purplemania wrote: I wonder what he means by "different" and "sideshow"? I hope it means that Zimmer and Turner liked the work out, but they're looking for more, hence "side show". I read the article on ESPN about how Turner evaluates QB, quizzing their brains out. Maybe "different" just means he came out in pads
Zimmer said that when the Vikings work Manziel out, it will be "less choreographed." I think at least partly explains his "different" and "sideshow" comments.

^Isn't everyone's pro day choreographed? Johnny's wasn't any different, Wearing the pads was different but made sense...

Without the "uncensored rap music" accompanying his taking the field and George H. W. Bush coming onto the field in a golf cart it definitely will be less of a "sideshow".

I find it very interesting that Cleveland was one of the only teams to NOT send anyone to his pro day, although they have a private workout scheduled for him.

Well, forget Manziel then.
