In the division, much less the NFC next year.
Seattle, Niners, Saints Green Bay and Cardinals
will be better than the bears IMO.

This is why I think this move won't effect us in a negative way, I don't see how this will help the Bears defense from last years all time worse. They now have something like 6 players 30 and over.

Jared deserves the money and he was a warrior for us and this sux he ended up on the Bears, but this won't effect us in the standings at all, I don't think.

Well, looks like the money was more important than winning... He could have been on Seattle, who has the makings of being a dynasty IMO, but he chose a middle of the road team.

With that said, congratulations to him, good luck to him (except for when he plays the Vikings), and thanks for the awesome memories and seasons!!

On the other hand, when was the last time an NFC team won the conference two years in a row? The Giants are the only team to win two Super Bowls in a 5 year span since the Pats won back-to-back titles 10 years ago. The odds are probably better that Seattle won't get back to the big game this season than that they'll repeat.

What an ego. Coulda been a contender. Instead he's a pretender!
Overpaid, washed up me-first one dimensional pass rusher. It's a good thing he ended up in the division!

I'm ok with this, it means AD will be ripping off large chunks of yards to the left side vs the Bears this year. And like others have mentioned, you gotta question why someone in their right mind would pass up the opportunity to play on a team with dynasty potential to play on a mediocre team at best.

Can't say I wouldn't take the best offer on the table if I were in his shoes either. I'll miss him more for his personality than his play. Thanks Jared, your still the man. Though I hope he sucks in Chicago, I will watch with a very heavy heart when Adrian or Kalil plants him or embarrasses him. Everson is going to light it up so that kind of softens the blow.

Seattle was the best bet given conventional thought and how aging stars usually chase after a ring, but then again, Allen never pegged me as a conventional kind of guy.

Good luck trying to tackle AP. Ha.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access" that the Oakland Raiders represented the highest earning opportunity for Allen, offering a contract that would pay $9 million per year.
According to Rapoport, faith in Jay Cutler, the ability to stay in the NFC North and the Bears' success in free agency were among the reasons why Allen chose Chicago.
Allen ended up getting exactly what he wanted this offseason: a multiyear, market-appropriate deal with a Super Bowl contender. The journey was far from smooth, but that doesn't matter much now.

 All this "dynasty" talk about the Seahawks is cracking me up. It's ridiculously premature. Let's see if they can even make it to back-to-back conference championships before we start talking about a dynasty-like run of Super Bowls.

Yep, one good year and people act like they are the prototype for success. About the only thing new they have brought to the table is a defense that holds and contacts early on every play because they know the refs wont call it every time.

I love how if you talk QB's now someone will inevitably bring up Russell Wilson. It's not like he lit up the world. He played well, he's apparently a good leader and good guy. That's great. But it's not like he was undrafted. Or a fringe 6th rounder. Or even a 4th round pick. People seem to think GM's are just so stupid for not being able to find "their Russell Wilson". Duh, just draft a dude in the 2nd, you stupid GM. Seahawks did it omg. Mark Sanchez had multiple good years when he entered the league and now look how much people get pissy at him. Russell could do the same thing if the team around him implodes like the Jets did.

Time will tell if they do become a "dynasty" but it's far too premature.

I hate seeing him go to the Bears. But glad he got a decent contract from someone. My prediction is Allen will have a great season at DE, 15 sacks or so. Griffin will have 8 or less.

Wilson was a third-round pick (75th overall). You can draft a dude in the 2nd or 3rd, but there's no guarantee those guys will pan out either. It's such a crapshoot.
Mark Sanchez had multiple good years when he entered the league and now look how much people get pissy at him.
Were those really "good years"? Or just "good years for Mark Sanchez"? His "best years" were probably in 2010 and 2011, and he never completed more than 57% of his passes, averaged less than 220 yards/game and posted a 43:40 TD:turnover ratio during that span. I'd probably say that's less-than-average by NFL starting QB standards. YMMV.
Russell could do the same thing if the team around him implodes like the Jets did.
That's true, though I don't get that sense. He's already performed better in each of his two seasons than Sanchez ever did in his "best." It's a relatively stable organization with key pieces and depth at a lot of positions. Of course, with Rice and Tate leaving, he could have a bit more trouble at receiver. He'll be relying on Harvin a ton this season, even if they add a couple of receivers via the draft. If Harvin gets injured, though, Wilson could really struggle to move the ball.
Time will tell if they do become a "dynasty" but it's far too premature.
Absolutely, but I'd rather be in their place.

I don't blame the guy for getting the best deal. That's the way the free agency game is played.

But, I have the same sickening feeling I had when Bud Grant cut Alan Page and Page signed with the Bears. Page became a jogging enthusiast and Grant didn't like how Page's weigh kept going lower. In the same way, the Vikings made their choice with Allen. They went a different direction. I don't think it necessarily is a bad choice. I think this was a matter of Allen going with the best deal and the potential of being on the field the most. But, ####, did it HAVE to be the Bears? Yuck.
FINALLY, a fellow Bears hater.

I'm with you, man. I loathe the Bears. I almost threw up when Allen, one of my favorite Vikings, landed there.

Tells me one thing, though. Jared Allen apparently IS all about the money ... cuz you don't choose Chicago over Seattle if you're desperate to win.

OK, Matt Kalil. You went against this guy every day in practice. Time to dominate.

I don't think that you have to be ALL about the money, when choosing a team that pays you 8m a year, over someone offering 4mil a year. The bears are not Oakland, Jax, or some other team that seems to have no chance in even getting to the playoffs year after year. Unfortunately, Chicago is an contender.
