I get the sense that he's not Norv Turner's kind of QB. I also wonder whether Spielman thinks highly of him. But I agree w/ you, it'd be interesting for us fans to pick Manziel. Part of what appeals to me, I'll admit, is that he's lightning in a bottle.

Wish we had rolled the dice on him instead of TJoke and Bummy McBumBum. At least getting our #### kicked the better part of the last decade would have been more fun to watch.Texas Vike wrote:

Don't want him. But he's got more potential than probably everyone in the draft and would be fun to watch. Even if he'd choke away a few super bowls. oh wait that's another short man syndrome having, noodle armed, running for his life, chicken with his head cut off.

Nice analogy. Performance IS the best indicator (not combine numbers or measurables) and he certainly did prove himself at the highest level of college ball.
I think JFB is a good example where he could shine or bust, and a lot would depend on what team drafted him.
Better chances to bust in Cleveland, and he could do very well for us here in Vikingland.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

You watch this kid play and I really would like to see him in Purple, maybe not with the 8th pick though.

This LOL. Like others have said before me, Manziel isn't a Norv kind of QB and the only QB worthy of a top 10 pick to me is Teddy.King James wrote:

It will be an interesting ride. Manziel is that kind of QB, mainly because he's put his own signature on his game, which is something I deeply admire. That's why I won't complain a bit if the Vikings take a chance on the kid, though I'm still hoping they draft for D in R1.Mothman wrote: We can be sure of at least one thing: if the Vikings draft Manziel, it's going to be an interesting ride...
Still, the Vikings do need a QB, so who knows what will happen if Manziel is there for the taking. I think the bottom line will have more to do with what kind of QB Turner and Zimmer want for their offensive system than it will be about any risk of Manziel or Bridgewater, etc., being a bust. Quite honestly, none of the QBs in the current draft are a guarantee. At least that's how I see it.

I've enjoyed reading yours and Jim's viewpoints as well. And I agree with your "lightning in a bottle" remark.Texas Vike wrote: Your post is a perfect reflection of just how enigmatic this guy is. Sounded to me like you were a resounding NO … and then you wrote "however…"![]()

I certainly hope Manziel won't be over-analyzed to the point that if he isn't a big star in his rookie year, he'll be considered a bust by the sports talking heads (and the fans, for that matter). It's possible Manziel will be like most rookies and need a couple years to catch on to the pro game.

I am sorry I just don't see the allure. I can't wrap my mind around this supposed "attitude" he brings to the game. You don't win games with swagger. In college I do believe that one player can inspire a team (A la Tim Tebow) however at the professional level, that is far more on the coaching staff than on the players. I find it laughable that JFB is going to, by even week 16 being pulling Jennings in by the facemask and inspiring him to go above and beyond for his Rookie QB.
I also
at the idea of "chips on shoulders" EVERY single draft 31 players in the first round are drafted with "chips on their shoulders"
TBH I would sacrifce every piece of "attitude" that JFB will supposedly bring to this team for him to have an extra 2 inches and a propensity to stay in the pocket longer.
Basically TL;DR I think JFB will tank and tank hard. If I am wrong I will gladly eat crow but I think drafting him would be worse than drafting a 3-4th round QB and starting them right away.

Re: Do you want Johnny Manziel at #8?
There is not a QB in the draft this year that I want them to take at #8. Not even Bridgewater. Definitely not Football!
I want them to go defense with the first pick and take a shot at a QB with their next pick. Who should that QB be? I don't get paid to do the research and make those decisions.
I find the results of this very scientific poll interesting though. All I'm hearing (on The Fan) is that fans will revolt if Football is there and the Vikings don't take him. And yet here it's not even close against them drafting him.

Actually, I didn't resist but I decided I should probably edit my post, leave most of my juvenile sense of humor here at home and just allude to the possibilities instead.

That's definitely possible (I'd even say it's probable) but you just know that over-analysis is coming....losperros wrote:I certainly hope Manziel won't be over-analyzed to the point that if he isn't a big star in his rookie year, he'll be considered a bust by the sports talking heads (and the fans, for that matter).
