I don't know that much about him but from what I've read, it sounds like he could be an upgrade over most of the CBs they have on the roster. Maybe he's not a #2 corner but as far as I can tell, he played pretty well for Miami last year. He seems like a player who could do more than contribute on special teams. Heck, he had three INTs last season. That's two more than any CB on the Vikings roster had! In fact, Sherels and Prater were the only Vikings CBs to even come with a pick last year.

"An upgrade over most of the CBs on the roster" is not a ringing endorsement. Asher Allen or Benny Sapp might be able to claim that title too.

Knee, rib and concussion and penalty history with Carroll. Ranked #52 in PFF corner rankings (not that they matter).

I'm all about competition, but IMO we need to be aiming higher.

I don't think they should just target him as a #2 and settle but I seriously doubt that's what they're doing anyway. I realize saying he'd be an upgrade over most of the CBs on the roster isn't a ringing endorsement but that's sort of the point. They need more help in the secondary than a new #2 corner. It would be nice to see them improve the depth chart, not just the starters and Carroll sounds like a player capable of playing more than just a special teams role. If he can help the Vikes get better, I'm all for it.

So am I, but I've seen him play a bit. I don't think he's necessarily better than Sherels. I guess it boils down to the fact that I see him as being, essentially, a guy we already have. I want a measurable upgrade. There are a lot of options that don't include top-tier guys like Talib (Browner, Munnerlyn, Brown, Tillman, Terrell Thomas, Blackmon, Cason). Let's just say I'm not against the move but I'd want/expect more quality to start opposite Rhodes.

Understood!

You obviously know more about him than I do. Basically, I was just clumsily trying to understand why he would be relegated to special teams when he sounds like a player who could contribute more than that.

Anyway, I want a measurable upgrade too and forget about the #2 corner position... I'm still not convinced they have a #1 corner. Rhodes gets it by default right now.

I never wanted him, but I know there were some here that did.

B.J. Raji - DL - Packers

Sources tell ESPN that the Packers are close to re-signing free agent DT B.J. Raji to a one-year contract.

It's telling that Raji is willing to accept a "prove it" deal from the Packers without even testing his value on the open market. He knows his value needs to be rehabbed. The five-year veteran's play has inconsistent at best and poor at worst recently, culminating with just 17 tackles and no sacks while getting destroyed against the run last season. As former Rams GM Billy Devaney recently said, Raji is "pretty much just a guy."

Well, Peterson has cast his vote (again?). This time, for Vick:
@MikeVick would intently make the vikings a playoff team!

With all due respect to AD: no thanks. I doubt Vick would make the Vikings a playoff team and I certainly don't want to be asked to root for him. AD clearly wants to win and that's understandable but Vick is available for a reason and it's not because he's the missing piece to a Super Bowl run.

And intently make the Vikings look like idiots. I don't think Peterson has much of a future as a GM.

I didn't know Vick played Defense too. Maybe that's why he always gets injured?

Huh. I was kidding, Rick, when I brought him up.

Jasper Brinkley - LB - Free Agent

KFAN.com reports free agent ILB Jasper Brinkley visited the Vikings earlier this week.

Brinkley's Thursday meeting with the Bills was believed to be his first since he was cut loose by the Cardinals, but that's not the case. The fact that Brinkley left Minnesota without a deal, however, is a sign a reunion isn't imminent. Brinkley is not a three-down 'backer, and is best utilized against the run.

Perhaps he just visited the Winter Park's lost and found section as he may have left a gym bag behind or something?
