CBS gets some Thursday Night Football

Post by dead_poet »

CBS has partnered with the NFL for Thursday Night Football and will broadcast the first eight Thursday games of the 2014 season.

"NFL Network built Thursday into a night for NFL fans," commissioner Roger Goodell said. "Our goal is to bring these games to more fans on broadcast television with unprecedented promotion and visibility for 'Thursday Night Football' on CBS." NFL Network will simulcast those games and then exclusively broadcast the final four Thursday games in addition to two late-season Saturday night games. Jim Nantz and Phil Simms will be doing all 16 games (no Mayock).

Yay. This actually means I will get to watch some Thursday night games this year. Free basic cable can only do so much for you. :o

I agree about Mayock. I enjoy his commentary. CBS will only carry the first eight games of the season, then the last eight go back to being exclusively on NFL Network. Will Nantz and Sims also call those last eight for the NFL Network?

I do like how Mayock analyzes and breaks down a game, but his lisp drives me nuts after awhile. Nantz and Simms are a pretty good crew to listen to. So glad Dierdorf retired though. Who's with me xD? His overuse of superlatives made me nauseous. It was as if he was getting paid by the superlative.

Mayock has a lisp? I never noticed. The one I do find a little annoying is Al Michaels, who has some kind of speech impediment, or maybe an ill-fitting dental plate.

I always thought Mayock's lisp was extremely evident.

Hahaha I think you have the 2 mixed up. Al Michaels sounds just fine to me. In fact I think he's one of the better announcers out there. Yeah sometimes it sounds like he has a mouth full of marbles, but it's not nearly as annoying as Mayocks lisp. Plus Al Michaels is a classic. Although I'd like to forget his Antonio Freeman call in OT several years back xD. "He did what?!" Lets just all agree Dierdorf was the worst. Thank you CBS for making him retire.

I liked Dierdorf years ago, but he just got too old after awhile.
