Um, no. That's not correct.

Maybe. And maybe you should let him do as he pleases when it comes to his professional career. Are you really that concerned about Sam's professional career? That's nice of you. Maybe we are on the same side?King James wrote: Yes he should be quiet, for the sake of his professional career...
But, really, I think he knew the risks ahead of time, and apparently he's strong enough to deal with all of this. Some NFL team will be, too. I applaud them all ahead of time.

Back to football.
He's a mid to late round DE, at best. Not worthy of 1/100th this much discussion.

Re: Michael Sam and the Vikings
Interesting you say that. ESPN was discussing guys drafted about where he is (was?) projected to go: Allen, Tuck, Dumervil. Anything can happen. He could become a very good NFL player. Isn't that what the draft discussions are all about, college players with NFL potential? He doesn't have that? Being a mid-to-late round talent doesn't necessarily mean he shouldn't be discussed. He should be. Maybe not this much, concerning just his talent, but we all know this is a bit different. This is history. Like it or not, it's kind of a big deal. It'll die down later, but don't expect that any time soon. You might be disappointed!Eli wrote:Back to football.

Re: Michael Sam and the Vikings
Jason Collins - NBA Player
Darren Young - Professional Wrester
Michael Sam -College Football Player
All 3 of them were nobodies but as soon as they told world, "I'm gay!! I'm gay," they get put on the spotlight. Atleast all the NBA teams had some balls and didn't get intimidated by signing some has-been player just because they didn't want to get accused of discrimination.
Darren Young wasn't really being utilized on WWE. He was constantly jobbing (in wrestling terms, his character is scripted to lose) and when he came out, they start promoting him like he's one of the top entertainers in the company. Not because of his wrestling ability because he announced he was gay.
Michael Sam- He's going to be the same way. Some team is going to reach on him just to show everybody that they accept the gay community.
And I wish people will stop comparing slavery for homosexuality. The ONLY reason why black people were slaves was because they were forced out of their own countries by their African masters and sold to the white man for a little bit of nothing. If you took any type of college level history you should know that. Don't blame our founding fathers for that, it was a young country back then and the thing about the government is that we have or had the power as citizens to vote on laws we didn't like.
I made the comment about this not being the country our founder father's built because we are losing our voice as citizens. It has gotten to the point now that you can't voice your disapproval of something without being looked down upon as a bigot. It's basically accept gays or you're a bad person now.[/quote]
Quote fail because I am on my phone but I wouldn't call micheal a nobody. He had 11.5 sacks, an award finalist, and SEC DPOY. The SEC is the best conference in football so he is definitely not a nobody if u follow college sports and know people besides Johnny football and other ESPN stars.
Not a long time ago I was reading about him being a day one pick. He is better than Kony ( a potential top 10 pick) but micheals size is in question. But to call him a nobody is just silly with how good of a player he was this season in the closest thing college has to the nfl (sec offensive line)

Didn't you guys watch "Remember the Titans"? This is going to be fine. People will just call him Sun Shine and move on after some initial turbulence.

Re: Michael Sam and the Vikings
You're big on quotes and links. I bet you could find yourself plenty that share that the definition of marriage includes those between two members of the same sex. So, why isn't that logical? And what does marriage have to do with it? Michael Sam is having a big, fat gay wedding now all of the sudden just because he's gay or...?Valhalla wrote: Sounds as logical as trying to call marriage something between two members of the same sex!

Re: Michael Sam and the Vikings
To quote Louis CK in a G rated way: Two guys are in love, but they can't get married because YOU don't want to explain it to your child for five minutes? How do you feel between interracial marriage? I know you're posting from the 5th grade class room but I am sure you can ask your homeroom teacher what year it is. We aren't in the dark days anymore, sonny boy.Sounds as logical as trying to call marriage something between two members of the same sex!

I don't think so, but if he wanted to, it's a basic HUMAN right to be able to express his happiness with his partner. Unless of course, you're a biggot and want to say "hey wait, no he can't, that makes me feel weird."Funkytown wrote: You're big on quotes and links. And before they start in the "marriage is sacred" garbage,
Number of marriages: 2,118,000
Marriage rate: 6.8 per 1,000 total population
Divorce rate: 3.6 per 1,000 population (44 reporting States and D.C.)
That's over a 50% failure rate for "traditional" (man + woman) marriages, so much for being sacred, so much for "eternal vows", when over half of them end in failure (for one reason or another) it's clearly not something that's meant to be taken as seriously as some people clearly make it out to be. It's also telling that PLENTY of straight people clearly don't care about marriage either!
Anyway, the reason a gay football player is news is because of how close minded some factions of society are, not because there are open minded counterparts. History has "set the stage" for something like this to matter way more than it should because it simply hasn't happened before!
As for being born black being different than choosing to be gay... wow, well... where do you even begin on that one? Let's say, as a straight guy, I see an extremely attractive woman in a bikini at the beach, you probably want to get with her and do the nasty! Now let's say that really attractive girl is checking out this other attractive guy. You look at him and you're like man he's just a ####, what does she see in him! Or in other words, as a straight guy, the attractive male at the beach does nothing for you.
Now let's say you feel the exact same way in the above scenario, except you happen to be in a female body this time around. That's literally all being gay is. the guy does nothing for you and you want to get with the attractive female... So the next time anyone jerks it to lesbian porn you can thank nature that some people's brains get wired a little backwards and there's nothing that can be done about it. It happens in every type of animal in the animal kingdom, but humans are the only ones that exhibit signs of homophobia!

Re: Michael Sam and the Vikings
Once again, stop comparing race to homosexuality. Two different situations. It doesn't matter who the person is. The "first X player to play in the X league" is always going to get coverage. I imagine there were a few stories about Jackie Robinson in various news outlets when he became the first African American professional baseball player. I don't see how you really fault the guy. SOMEBODY was going to be the first. And that somebody doesn't necessarily have to be a media-hounding diva. I guarantee a guy like T.O. or Chad "Ocho Cinco" will have been considered much more media-centric than Sam will ever be.
Apparently you never watched wrestling because wrestlers can give input on the direction there character is going in. It's not just the writers calling all the shots. The wrestlers often have ideas for creative pitches. Yes it's his fault because he sucks but had a little run some months ago after he came out. Glad to see now that WWE stopping pushing his butt. It's one thing if a person is gay and excels at their craft. But in his case, it's another more than free opportunities giving to him when there were people way in front of him more deserving.Uh, maybe because it's a STORYLINE? Please don't compare WWE to the NFL. And are you really blaming Darren Young for something that was clearly out of his control (the story creators obviously determined this would draw media attention and crafted a more prominent role). You understand that, right?
You don't know that. You're not any of the GMs so how can you say what they won't do?Ha! That's absurd. No GM is going to sign the guy just because he's gay. Again, there's too much riding on their jobs to take a player based on something other than what they (and their scouting department) evaluate as a player. He's going to be selected as a football player first, as he should be.
Slavery was normal back then right?. Of course NOW we live in a generation where slavery is looked down upon. Just like homosexuality seems to be in the norm now, but was heavily looked down up back then. Most of us here weren't slaves or never had any slaves so I don't expect you see where Im going from. The way America teaches slavery is the exact reason why many black and whites still segregate themselves from each other. But that's a whole different topicDon't blame them for owning slaves? Oooookay. I guess they had to own other humans. It was just "the way."
Without getting ridiculed? No it isn't.Um...disagree. There's never been more ways and opportunities to voice your opinions.
Bigot is a term created by people who think their unfairly discriminated against just because some people don't agree with their lifestyle.Well the definition of a bigot is a person who strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas, etc./ a person who hates or refuses to accept the members of a particular group.
