Mettenburg or mallet

Post by Anderson22 »

My dream scenario: trade our #2 pick for Ryan mallet, he has had a few years learning from one of the best qbs to ever play the game , I believe you could plug him in right away and he could be great, 2nd option is to use our #2 pick to draft mettenburg, he has a cannon for a arm and hAs come a long way from the beginning of the season to the end, I believe he is the best option for our offense, I do like Arron Murray though;) just a few dream scenarios for the offseason, go vikes

Mettenberger.

Believe it or not, he appears to be more polished than Mallet. I think people have this assumption that just because Mallet is 2nd behind Brady that he will automatically be successful as a starter. I'm a fan of Mallet, but everytime I've seen him play since being in the league he has been erratic with his passes and indecisive.

Very true, i do think they are very similar, they are both tall and both have cannons, I would be happy with either one, maybe we could trade our #1 pick and stockpile a few more picks and fill some of our much needed holes ?

AJ MCCARRON!!!! Did you guys watch the press conference? He said he's playing with a chip on his shoulder, and who does that sound like? Mike Zimmer. McCarron is a baller who is going to give 100% every game. He might not be the top QB in the draft but teams like Seattle and the 49ers have proved that you don't have to draft a franchise guy in the 1st round.

Lol there is plenty of players that have had a chip on the shoulder so to speak, and never turned out to be anything special.

My problem with McCarron, is if he is really as talented as he is made out to be, or just a product of the Alabama powerhouse, don't get me wrong, its not as cut and dry as that and there are plenty of good players that played on that loaded team in Bama (See; Lacy) but that is my biggest concern about McCarron, or at least would be if we were to draft him.

That seems to be the only knock people have on McCarron. The fact that Bama was loaded. I think he will translate good in the NFL if that's the case. In the NFL you have a group of good players who came from different colleges. I think we have the right pieces in place for him here. We have a good group of WR and McCarron is so quick with his decision making. You don't have to worry about him being pressure because he knows when to let go of the ball even when faced with pressure. Look at the Texas A&M game. He was blitzed alot but still made plays when he had too.

Won't have more talent than every team he plays, at most positions, in the NFL.

You're seeing his ceiling. Let's see how that translates when other teams have equal, or likely more, talent....

McCarron has proved that he can beat teams with just as much talent as Bama. There have been plenty of games where Bama was down but he stay poised throughout the entire game and got Bama the W.

Aj is exactly like Ponder and I mean exactly, smart and intelligent person says all the right things in the interview process very average arm strength, game manager who can't take over and throw a team back into a game and wouldn't try. A non risk taker! No thank you. Just look at the the bowl tape against Oklahoma for example.

I never want to see another Vikings QB who completes 60% of his passes and throws few interceptions only because he's too timid and too indecisive to be able to deliver the ball down field.

AJ is nothing like Ponder. Ponder only had ONE good year and that was his senior season. McCarron has put up four good years of dominance that led to two national championships. Ponder has never been considered as a Heisman candidate. As for McCarron's arm strength, if you've watched any game tape, you can see that McCarron can throw the field.

If you watch his highlights again LSU at the national championship game, you can see that he expose that entire secondary and threw all over the place. As for indecisive he rips the ball out so quick and knows where the WRs are gonna be, so how is he indecisive?

It's clear that many of you don't know QB talent outside of 1st round. Y'all probably still hoping that we get JF or TB? No QB is worth the Vikes taking in the 1st round. We will be better of getting a guy in the later rounds. Like AJ. Stop looking at stats on the internet and actually look at his game film. The only bad game I can see from him was the last game he has against Oklahoma. Other than that he has been solid.
