I think he fits Norvs system, now don't be mistaken if Teddy or Manziel are there it's not a question we pull the trigger. But if somehow we go best cb, LB, de in the 1st and , if we have to move back into the 1st to get Carr (only team I'm weary if is Arizona) .....I would be pleased. I really like the way Carr throws the football and he has the arm talent, size and athleticism to be successful in the NFL. He'll certainly have questions to answer at the next level but I think he has the potential to be the best QB to come out of this draft. I'm not saying he will be the best but I think the potential is there. I'd be happy to see him in a Vikes uniform next season.

Nice video! He throws a sweet looking ball; looks very confident making all throws. I said to myself, "the guy looks like a man among boys" and then I remembered that he is playing in a pretty weak conference, so that's pretty much true. What concerns me is all his throws in that video appear to be his first read; I'm left to wonder if his "lowlights" video is filled with plays where he had to go to his 2nd and 3rd options.

I do think that this draft is decent for QB talent. I'm excited to see how the Vikings draft this spring.

Edited to add: both these guys have us taking Carr

Bortles, in most mocks, have him as high as the very first player taken going to Houston. I would be delighted to see the Vikes select him at #8 if he is there. No matter which QB that the Vikes draft and regardless of which pick they use to take them, there will be pros and cons for who they took and why they took him (that is natural). For my money Bortles would be my pick at #8.

I watched a video posted upthread on Carr that pointed out some of his weak points… and, yeah, I'm a lot less impressed. He seems to me to be a great illustration of just how difficult it can be to evaluate this position. Watching his highlight video he looks solid. When I watched game videos his weaknesses are very apparent. He looks like he throws off his back foot a lot and he simply airs out passes that float forever… the type that will get picked easily in the NFL. He seems jumpy as heck too; whenever there's a hint of pressure he panics… Ponder 2.0. He looks great in the Senior Bowl, big surprise. He'll look great in his pro day too I'm sure… In artificially favorable conditions he looks exceptional. In real football situations he looks subpar. No thanks. If we take him at 8 like a lot of Mocks are predicting I think I'll be upset until/ unless he can prove me wrong.

I agree 100%. Thats how I feel about Carr as well. I think Carr does have a tendency to throw downfield more than Ponder though, that is about the only improvement I see over Ponder.

Here's a link to a recent Sporting News article in which they break down their top 10 QBs in the 2014 draft:

I figured out which QB I want in the draft. The one that isn't going to suck or be a bust. Seems like that is all we pick for QB the last 15 years. Time for some "good" blood for a change.

He was good while he was here. But his head got to big for his shoulders to carry.

The more I read about this crop of QBs, the less impressed I am. It might be a deep class in the sense that more than usual could be drafted through seven rounds, but there aren't as many elite prospects as first thought. At first we were seeing projections of three or four QBs taken in the top 10. Now, it's looking more like just three or four are bona fide first round candidates.

and only because as pick #29-#32 roll around the QB needy teams at the front of the 2nd might hop back in to get them. Otherwise there are 2 that qualify for me, and a bunch of Ponder / Gabbert / Locker clones.

Interesting article.
"Vikings will recieve ZERO "compensatory picks".......Packers recieve a 3rd rounder.... again...."

The Vikings lost Aromashodu, Brinkley and Schwartz last year. Aromashodu was cut in preseason. Brinkley started three games and had 23 tackles. Schwartz, a former 7th rounder, had 7 starts for KC.

Meanwhile, they picked Jennings, Cassel and Bishop. Cassel and Bishop probably don't factor into the equation, since they were released.

Not much to argue there. Jennings alone cancels out who they lost.

Exactly..it's not as if the NFL plays favorites and gives compensatory picks to whomever they feel like .. there is a specific formula based on UFAs signed and lost.

Compensatory picks haven't been officially handed out. So while that formula might be close, I've seen many articles over the years with similar formulas get it wrong. For example, Greg Jennings likely won't give the Packers a 3rd round pick because he is not coming off his first contract, which is generally the only times 3rd round picks are given out.

But they are right about the Vikings picks, it is extremely unlikely that we get any
