The title of this thread should probably be changed to: "some speculate that the Vikings might possibly think about trading Ponder".Jeffbleedspurple wrote:The Minnesota Vikings have apparently had enough of quarterback Christian Ponder and will reportedly see what they can get for him via a trade, according to ESPN.com (via CBS Sports).
Ponder is under contract for 2014, but "it seems likely the Vikings would try to get what they can for him in a trade."
Ponder played nine games last season, throwing 11 touchdowns and turned the ball over 13 times, paving the way for Matt Cassel to take his place.

Would be nice if we could get at least a 3rd round pick out of him
Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.

I'd take anything for Ponder but no team should trade for him as teams know (much like Cassel last year) that Ponder will get released.
Pull yr 84 jerseys out.

Take anything we can to get rid of him
Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
There's little guarantee that the Vikings will release Ponder, either. Even if they keep Cassel for next year and draft a QB with a high draft pick, Spielman has proven to be so incompetent at filling the QB position that they could keep Ponder around as a backup. That way, at the end of next season they can lose two veteran QBs from the roster and leave themselves with only a 2nd year QB under contract. Such a strategy would be very much in keeping with recent moves.

Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
Funny how one year he was a star looking like the 1st overall, he loses his weapons, has a down year and he's a total bum. He is pretty unknown, who knows what he really is. I wonder if Falcon fans once wondered about that dead beat Brett Favre. Leave no stone unturned in that search, draft one and trade for one, rinse and repeat. Keep at it like a bulldog, eventually a shiny diamond will emerge. What really is there to lose?PurpleMustReign wrote: Why would we get rid of one mass of dead weight for another?

You sure do like to complain, huh? I'd imagine you are a favorite around your office/place of work.Eli wrote:There's little guarantee that the Vikings will release Ponder, either. It's not complaining any more. It's just sitting back and watching the show, with very low expectations.frosted21 wrote: You sure do like to complain, huh? I'd imagine you are a favorite around your office/place of work.
If this management team somehow puts a team together that's capable, it will be awesome, and a huge surprise. I love surprises.
In the meantime, I don't expect much, because that's typically what they've produced, and it's less disappointing. I dislike disappointments.

I guess I can't really fault you, it has been a bumpy ride.Eli wrote: It's not complaining any more. It's just sitting back and watching the show, with very low expectations.

That said, when they do right the ship, there will be multiple plates of crow served to the pessimists that inhabit our 'fanbase'.
And with THAT said, if the ship continues to sink, optimists such as myself will rightfully be served dish after dish of that same variety of crow.

Go VIKES!

I expect many of the pessimists will see it coming when (if) it happens, so they won't be so pessimistic. Right now, they're a long way from assembling anything that they can be proud of.frosted21 wrote:I guess I can't really fault you, it has been a bumpy ride.

Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
I would be surprised if any team would be willing to part with a draft choice to acquire Ponder. I think he will end up being released. I can see a team like Seattle picking him up as a backup to Wilson, but not for a draft choice. As I've said before, I hope they trade up for a quarterback. They could then sign Matt Schaub as the veteran starter who will eventually give way to the rookie (whoever he may be). The team should improve next year which means the end result would be a lower draft choice in 2015. Lets get to March and may free agency commence!

Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
The only trade I could see, is for another similar player who busted out. Like, and don't laugh. Blaine Gabbert, not like I want that, just an example.
I would be estatic, if some team would deal an unknown, who hasn't seen playing time, and will be handcuffed to the bench. Maybe some team will reason that experience beats no experience.

Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
Getting a draft pick for Ponder might ultimately depend on what teams believe the Vikings will do if they can't get something for him. Would they just release him or would they keep him on the roster in 2014? If teams believe the latter possibility is likely, someone might be willing to give up a pick for Ponder. I seriously doubt anybody is going to give up a third round pick for him but the Vikes might be able to get a later pick in trade.

Draft pick? Shoot, I doubt we can get a half eaten bratwurst for him at this point...

Re: Vikings will seek trade for Ponder.
NOT that I think this it remotely possible, but can you imagine if we cut him and he goes to another team and has a reasonably good year...what an indictiment of our system THAT would be.
However, I just dont see a chance of it. Nor does it seem likely that there is a GM out there dumb enough to trade for such an abject failure who has shown a steady decline in skills and judgement on the field. A truly desperate team that wants to take a chance on him will wait till he is cut. Seattle has made a liviing off of taking our discards but NOT in this case.
