It doesn't matter anyway because none of these QBs are QBs we should want starting. That's the point. People seem insistent on making this about Ponder vs Cassel as if a great deal separates the two. The truth is they were both inconsistent last year, good at times, awful at others. Sure, Cassel had a fantastic game against the Eagles and played well in a few other games but he was genuinely bad in some other performances. As fans, we shouldn't let the high of that offensive explosion against the Eagles blind us to the low of the performance that followed it in Cincy or the underwhelming performance he delivered in the last game of the season.
For me, this isn't about Ponder or Cassel, it's about finding better options. I'd love to see the Vikes come out of this draft with a couple of QBs, perhaps one in R1 or R2 and Aaron Murray a little later. If they want Cassel back, that's fine but if they found a similar veteran option in free agency and Cassel walked, it wouldn't bother me a bit.
There was as much hate for Tjoke as there is for Ponder. Well guess what, Tjoke is the 2nd string QB for the World Champion Seahawks, has a ring, and must have shown enough to the organization to keep him on the team. Good for him and I truly believe that with the right coaches and system Ponder will be at least a solid backup in the league. And I do not give a rat's butt who doesn't believe it just wait and see.

In the mean time, we need to figure out who can be our STARTING QB… Great for Tjack, but really, who cares? Did he do ANYTHING to earn his ring? Did he contribute in ANY substantial way to the Seahawks championship year?
I think very few would argue w/ Ponder or TJack being good enough to be backups… they just aren't going to lead your team to the SB, and that's very obvious and the only thing that really matters.

Yeah, that game or two that he backed up to keep them in the playoff chase. Wow, what an amazing back up he's made, never mind, he did absolutely nothing this year.
By the way, they didn't "keep him". They traded him for a conditional seventh round draft pick two years ago. And signed him back before this season to a one year deal.
"Solid backup"? What does that even mean? Even in garbage time of the super bowl he rifles a ball seven yards in front of the receiver out of bounds....
Doubt he would start anywhere else. He is just looking to up his Pay a bit. If he leaves we are in serious trouble unless Turner and Zimmer have some magic beans

I can only imagine the complaining that came from you when Jackson was on the team. Beings how you complain about everything anyway Sorry if you cant comprehend the fact that Jackson made it onto a Super Bowl winning team and is the backup quarterback. Do you grasp what that even means If not, it means that from all of the available QBs the Seahawks chose to sign Jackson as the backup that would come into the game if Wilson was injured. Of course you know more about football than Pete Carroll, their GM, Bevell but a backup QB is one play/injury away from coming into a game or rest of a season and leading the team. So snark away all you want

I favor drafting one and trading for a young guy who was drafted within the last 2-3 years. That way you still get to evaluate a couple young guys, and get the most out of a draft. They may need to make the most of that draft if they lose too many players.
My other idea would be to trade out completely, use 2014 as a team eval, and go into 2015 draft with two 1s in a nice looking QB draft.
I do not want to deviate from the plan of building through the draft. Free agency is fools gold for the most part.

Because he knew the offense and the terminology, not because he is better than every other QB they could have possibly signed...
They already have someone who fits that description so I assume you have someone else in mind.
I'd love if they had a look at Matt Barkley. I want a complete unknown, and Phillys willingness level to deal would shed light on how they feel about him. I'd look at Mallot too, just seems smart to maximize options.

I wonder if he'd be available for anything less than a third round pick. The Eagles traded up to get him in R4 last year and Kelly is supposedly pretty high on him. His availability via trade might depend on what they plan to do with Vick. I've read that he may be released and Barkley might move into the #2 spot this season. He seems to be a part of the Eagles plans.
Anyway, it's an interesting idea but I'm not sure it would work well with your desire not to deviate from building through the draft. I guess it would depend on the nature of the trade (ie; if it was an exchange of players or an exchange of a pick, or picks, for Barkley).
I didn't expect this with the new regime. I would have understood if Frazier was still here.
I hope it is simply a leverage move, the nightmares of CP7 back in the saddle has me waking up soaked in sweat.
Assuming that report is accurate, I'm not surprised that he'd choose to opt out. It gives him options and coming back to the Vikings is probably still one of them. However, now, if he believes they want him to start, he can ask for more money and/or a multi-year deal.

You have a great point there. He can now shop himself around and see if he can get more money out of someone else or even us. With our QB situation being so bad he's probably thinking we'll throw a better contract at him. The Vikings QB situation Just got even more interesting. Man would I love to be a fly on the wall at HQ over the next couple of months.

I would too. It would be fascinating to hear the conversations Spielman, Zimmer, Turner, etc. have about Cassel, Ponder, QBs in the draft and other options.
