Matt Cassel
Matt has to decide by Friday of this week whether to opt out of his contract or not. The Vikings then have until sometime in March to decide whether to pay him his bonus or cut him. What's he going to do? I completely expect us to keep him on roster if he doesn't opt out.
I believe he will stay.

Re: Matt Cassel
I imagine he would stay. He would be crazy not to. He still has a decent shot to start going into next year and I'm guessing he would want to play for Norv Turner and Zimmer. If he left, his market wouldn't be anything crazy and only could start for a limited amount of teams. Not just because I am a Vikings fan but I would much rather play for Minnesota than Jacksonville, Cleveland, or Oakland.

Re: Matt Cassel
If he doesn't stay, we still have Christian Ponder.

If he doesn't stay, I'm threatening to leave!

My sentiments exactly. I think Cassel is the only one among the Vikings current three QBs who will be around for next season.
I also think there is a good chance that Cassel will be the starter going into the season, though a young might replace him later on.

Re: Matt Cassel
I think they are thinking he is the starter. But who knows. I doubt anyone pays more then we would. Ponder is also on the roster another year, but I hope no one in the Viking organization wants to start off on the wrong foot.
Re: Matt Cassel
There's no way he'd opt out. Who else would potentially give him the opportunity to start?
Re: Matt Cassel
It would be nice to know if they are "potentially giving him the opportunity to start". We don't know what Norv is thinking.

A team that didn't just spend a season yanking him around?maembe wrote:There's no way he'd opt out. Who else would potentially give him the opportunity to start?

Re: Matt Cassel
Cassel knows he has the best chance to start in minn, regardless of the draft. I actually think it's in our best interest to keep him as well. On the other hand, even if we give (new drafted QB) the keys to the city right off the bat Matt would be a great mentor. At this point he has value here, it's good for both sides.
