Boldin is 33 and can't separate (he wins at the catch point and muscling his receptions). He's clearly on the decline and has no place on our roster long-term. I'd want Patterson to replace Simpson, though I wouldn't be opposed to re-signing Simpson for depth. He proved himself capable and worthy of backup outside receiver and occasional situational deep threat.. Personally, I do want to see more of Wright. I think he's earned it. I'm also curious about Greg Childs. While I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that he's not going to have a productive NFL career, next season will be a key year and I'm curious to see how he's recovered. I'm also curious to see what the new coaching staff makes of impending free agent Joe Webb. My guess is he's not re-signed.NextQuestion wrote:I'd take Boldin over Simpson, but I'm guessing Simpson won't be back and we want to promote Wright.

The same way that Greg Jennings signed with the Vikings on a suspect offense with no viable QB.Eli wrote:If Raji is so particular about his playing situation that he's unwilling to remain with the team that drafted him 9th overall, then how do you envision him wanting to play for the Vikings on such an awful defense?

Re: 2014 Impending and Potential Free Agent Targets
You're completely missing the point about Raji. Jennings didn't take a stand about not wanting to return to the the Packers because he didn't like how he was being utilized. He just plain whored himself out to the highest bidder.Purple bruise wrote: The same way that Greg Jennings signed with the Vikings on a suspect offense with no viable QB.

So you're assuming Raji would also feel he wouldn't be utilized properly in Minnesota? How did you come to that conclusion?Eli wrote: You're completely missing the point about Raji. To be clear, I am not expecting to us to sign Raji, just trying to understand your line of thinking. I believe he is looking to get away from the 3-4. I don't think he was quoted saying anything about the quality of his teammates in GB, just the scheme.

Apparently, he should have stayed in Green Bay where he could have been viewed as chaste and pure. Will they be sewing a scarlet letter onto his jersey next year?Eli wrote:You're completely missing the point about Raji. Re: 2014 Impending and Potential Free Agent Targets
Who, Jennings? Who cares how chaste he is? He wanted the bucks, the Vikings gave it to him. He sure as hell didn't come to Minny hoping to win a Super Bowl ring, like many players his age in the twilight of their careers.Mothman wrote: Apparently, he should have stayed in Green Bay where he could have been viewed as chaste and pure. I am fairly cetain that you do not know why he signed with the Vikings. The Vikings had just made the play-offs and the future looked bright (also playing with AD and for Frazier). I tire of so many fans complaining about this free agent and that free agent not wanting to come to the Vikings. Now it is because playing outdoors or the team isn't considered a contender blah blah ..... The truth usually does come down to money. I for one, think that with this new coaching staff and a core of solid young tallent this team will contend for a division title. If the money is right then Raji or any other free agent would not hesitate coming to the Vikings. I think that Jennings, by all accounts, is very happy to be here and would strongly endorse a player like Raji to join him.Eli wrote: Who, Jennings? Who cares how chaste he is? Re: 2014 Impending and Potential Free Agent Targets
I don't know where else to put this:
@Masterstrib on Twitter#Vikings sign Kheeston Randall to a reserve/future free agent deal. 2-year DT out of Texas.
http://t.co/L4NCtNixNARandall was drafted by Miami in the seventh round in 2012 out of Texas. He played 12 games as a rookie but was cut before the 2013 season. He's 6-5 and 309 pounds. He was signed by Cincinnati in November and, obviously, Zimmer liked him, because he's with the Vikings now.

Re: 2014 Impending and Potential Free Agent Targets
Kheeston Randall is an interesting signing. It could signal what may be the beginning of a significant number of moves at the fringe, especially on defense. Guys like Justin Trattou and Chase Baker may be on their way out or else fighting against legitimate contenders for their jobs rather than against the usual camp fodder.
It will also be interesting to see who Zimmer values among the free agent linemen, with Kevin Williams, Jared Allen, Everson Griffen and Fred Evans all free agents. It would be crazy, but we could conceivably see as many as five or six new players just on the defensive line.

Had an interesting time watching Desmond Bishop's timeline on Twitter last night. Some Packers fan said "we miss you, wish you could come back". He replied:
@Desbishop55 21h
“@jspalla I just wish you were still on Green Bay” since we being honest, Me too.. sometimes.. Like ur 1st love who don't love u back lol"
I wrote him saying: "as a Vikings fan... I'm sorry coach Frazier did not utilize you properly. It was embarrassing".
He then said:
"I wanna retweet that badly but due to my political ties.....!! Lol jk.. All good everything happens for a reason. Right?"

Re: 2014 Impending and Potential Free Agent Targets
I really hope we bring him back for veteran minimum. I wouldn't be surprised because everyone knows what he is capable of when he is healthy. If he can stay healthy and he's in Zimmer's defense....look outNextQuestion wrote:Had an interesting time watching Desmond Bishop's timeline on Twitter last night. Waste of a signing then, would be waste of a signing again.

Yeah, he just got one, and he proved he's an old beat up has been. We're in the early stages of a rebuild. Why sign ancient beat up has beens when we should be getting young guys snaps? And he doesn't even fit the 43 defense that well besides...

Re: 2014 Impending and Potential Free Agent Targets
He had 1 year where Frazier failed to play him (because he's clueless when it comes to talent) and when he finally started, he was unlucky enough to tear his ACL. An ACL injury can happen to anyone. If you get hit or land just right you can do it at any time. And how is he an old has been? He's 29 years old. That is NOT old. You're acting like he's 35. And speaking of 35, that's how old James Harrison is and he has been very injury prone but still played more than half the year for Cincy. But 29 is an "old has-been" right?Demi wrote:Yeah, he just got one, and he proved he's an old beat up has been. We're in the early stages of a rebuild. And we are not in the early stages of a re-build. This is going on the 3rd year of a rebuild so I'm not sure where you've been. Our average age on this team is 25. There is nothing wrong with having veterans on this team. Especially when you can get a guy with high potential on a cheap contract.
Also, Zimmer is known to have pass-rush type LB's. James Harrison didn't fit a 4-3 scheme but came in and started 10 games for Cincy so what does that tell you??? Him "not fitting" this defense has NOTHING to do with it. He would fit perfectly in Zimmers defense.
....just clueless
