Jimmy Garoppolo looked pretty solid in the east-west shrine game. Former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah has a 2nd round grade on him. I'm starting to like him more and more every time I see him play. Scouts are saying it should be an easy transition to the NFL for him because he ran a pro-style offense at Eastern Illinois. I think he would be a great pick for us in the 2-3 round. Especially with Norv Turner running the show now.

Nice to see him in a more NFL appropriate context and see that he still stood out. The LOC (level of competition) he faced at Eastern Ill is a huge issue for me. I love his mechanics (esp. quick release, but also his footwork) … just so hard to get an objective read on him due to LOC.

I agree that is a valid concern, but there have been players from that level that have gone on to successful careers in pro sports, Tony Romo, Phil Simms among the qbs. Some solid basketball players have come out of the ovc too.

The basketball precedent does nothing for me, but it is good to know that Romo and Simms came from FCS level of competition. If Romo was the last one to make it, though, it would show how low the probability is to come from that level and make it in the NFL.

Thanks for bringing this up. I actually watched a little of that game yesterday and came a way fairly impressed. I say fairly because the coverages were vanilla as can be, but from what was seen, he's a legit sleeper.

Heard his name dropped in another forum as a potential sleeper. Had no idea who he was. Being a potential sleeper might have merit. I'm interested to see more highlights of him and hear the analysis from a Mayock type. Could be a 5th/6th round gem.

He's a projected 2-3 round pick right now. Granted that could change but thats currently where he stands

I like Garropolo too. Not as a first year starter. It has been said he has the size and the tools, but I would like to see him learning from the bench. It is a big jump from college to pros, even bigger form FCS

It seems pretty likely, doesn't it? That said, it could be the Bears. Garappolo has been a story in Illinois for quite some time now. I'm sure he's been on the Bears' radar for a while too.

If I had to bet, I'd say it's Minnesota, but yeah...A team can love a player without needing to draft him, so it could be any of the others.

If he's projected in the 2nd or 3rd then that means Minnesota can go defense in the first, which I feel is best. Depending on the run on quarterbacks in the first round will probably dictate if they pull the trigger in the 2nd round or hold out till the 3rd.

It seems pretty likely, doesn't it? That said, it could be the Bears. Garappolo has been a story in Illinois for quite some time now. I'm sure he's been on the Bears' radar for a while too.

I think it could be the Bears too. With Zimmer just in the door, and turner just officially hired, I think their main focus is on building the coaching staff right now rather than scouting. Of course, it could be a Minnesota scout but then it doesn't really mean all that much if the HC or OC isn't in "love" with the guy.

Never heard a peep about the guy until AFTER the last college game had been played. And then suddenly he's flying up boards. East/West Shrine game? Ponder was the MVP of the senior bowl, we better wait and see how the tortoise does there first! FCS? Spread offense? Yeah, let's give him a couple years on the bench, that's how QBs pan out nowadays. Should give him 30 starts after that too, just to make sure.

Happy footed, noodle armed, gimmick offense. ("experience is in a FCS spread, shotgun attack, needs to become more acclimated with under-center snaps." So did he run a pro style offense or not? Hello? Anyone? Eastern Illinois experts? Where you at?)

I'm excited!....for the Packers to draft him as their back up...hopefully.

I bet the mock draft experts love him though! Coach him up, develop him, season him. Fix everything and he'll be the next Christian Ponder! Leading teams to the playoffs left and right after working a genius QB guru!

Are we suppose to get super excited about every QB prospect just in case we get one? Or what's the game with some people? You dare to post something doesn't agree with the latest mock draft and ooooooh. You know how many QBs the mock drafters love every year that do NOTHING in the NFL...EVER?
