Late in the 2012 season, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson struggled with a groin injury. After the season ended, he had hernia surgery.
Late in the 2013 season, Peterson again struggled with a groin injury. And he may need surgery once again.
According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, Peterson soon will visit Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia to determine whether surgery is needed. Meyers, who performed the hernia surgery in early 2013, could cut an irritated groin tendon in a procedure known as an adductor release. The operation would be minimally invasive, requiring a rehab period of roughly two months.
Peterson missed a pair of games in December 2013 (he also had a foot injury), but Peterson still rushed for 1,266 yards. While that’s a very good season, it’s only 16 yards more than half of his preseason target of 2,500.

Re: Adrian Peterson Could Need Groin Surgery
2500 was a florid fantasy anyway. Peterson is human, he just hasn't realized it yet. With a good passing game he'll probably never get past 1800 again.
Re: Adrian Peterson Could Need Groin Surgery
Unfortunately, Peterson is at the age where being injured constantly to some degree could be the story of what remains of his career.

Re: Adrian Peterson Could Need Groin Surgery
After seeing how he came back from the knee surgery, I would say this is like getting a flu shot.
I wish it were that minor. Like mentioned, his age on top of his style of play starts to catch up to you at some point. Still has a few years at a peak level though. Just have to hope nothing about this lingers.

It's about time we draft a RB in the draft. We I think we have to get one anyway with Toby Gehart possibly going to a new team via Free Agency. We need someone who can take the wheel once Peterson falls off.
Re: Adrian Peterson Could Need Groin Surgery
Zach Line, who was badly miscast as a fullback, could be a better running back than Toby Gerhart. Given all of their other needs, it's far too early to start worrying about drafting a replacement for Peterson. He has a few good years left in him, just that it may take a lot of luck for him to play all 16 games in a season again.

That is pretty far out there to imagine that Zach Line (undrafted) could be a better running back than Gerhart. He was a full back at Southern Miss and ran a 4.77 forty. He had one long run for 61 yards so maybe that is what some one would base that on

I would not worry too much. He came back off of a serious surgery to his knee and nearly broke the all time rushing record. These new injuries pale in comparison to that knee. He could have played in the last two game but was wisely held out of them. AD is just fine and even says so.

But he's also two years older and starting to be plagued by chronic, nagging injuries.

Re: Adrian Peterson Could Need Groin Surgery
I agree BUT he is AD. With, what appears to be, a great capacity to recover from injuries. That is why the Vikes need to develop a good passing game and find a back to give him a "breather" now and then. That was why Gerhart was so good for AD and the team. He could catch, block and run. If the Vikes are going to spend a draft pick on a running back then I hope that they can resign him instead.Eli wrote:But he's also two years older and starting to be plagued by chronic, nagging injuries.

I hope Rickie is working hard on a trade before there is literally nothing we can get for AD. I think right now we are already screwed beyond repair. Horrible contract, just horrible, for a RB.

Yep. Send him back home to Texas. Sounded like he missed it earlier this year! Jerry Jones is a sucker so make it happen!PurpleKoolaid wrote:I hope Rickie is working hard on a trade before there is literally nothing we can get for AD. Comes in after an ACL tear and runs for over 2,000 yards then has a mediocre, injury-filled, QB-less season and people start talking about how "bad" his contract is, trading him, etc.

Re: Adrian Peterson Could Need Groin Surgery
He complained of 3 different injures this year, and kept starting. I admire him for being tough, but he is human after all. This is a business. We wasted the advantage we had with JA. We better not do it again.thatguy wrote:Comes in after an ACL tear and runs for over 2,000 yards then has a mediocre, injury-filled, QB-less season and people start talking about how "bad" his contract is, trading him, etc.
