It's going to be Cassel, unlesss Manziel or Teddy slip to 8 it will be a massive reach for QB at 8. I would trade the 8th pick for more ammo next year, that is going to be the real QB draft.

I would love love love for a russel wilson like story for us. Not necessarily that skill level but it would be great to get a late 2nd or 3rd rounder that comes into training camp and takes over. I would love that more than any first rounder QB slipping to us.

I would agree if we didnt have so many holes. Honestly apart from special teams and running back; Throw a dart at a list and draft that at 8 and bingo one hole plugged.

Re: Prediction for next season starting QB will be ......
I could see them trading down. I think there is going to be a run on QBs early in the draft, the position has become way too important in the NFL. That means we are reaching for the 5th guy down on the QB list and I think Spielman will have learned his lesson. It could be a good move to trade down and get more picks in the 2nd/3rd to address defensive holes.
I think the most likely starter is Cassell unless they get Bridgewater or Manziel. I think there might be some QB value in some of the lower rated guys like AJ McCarron, but that is just a guess.

I think its far to early to tell. I hope its Cassell. I think he earned the opportunity but, he still has the option to void the last year (2014) of his contract for FA. I have to believe that there is going to be a great deal of conversation (prior to the draft) between Spielman, Zimmer and Cassell in terms of how he will be used. Unless they commit to him that he is the starter, I'm not sure he will even be on the roster.

The projected draft positions for these Q/B's are going to change all most weekly between now and May. Where they ultimately get picked......who knows. Right now, I seriously doubt any of the Q/b's you listed will still be on the board at 8 except for Carr (SI big board currently has him listed as the 39 best player available) and IMO he would be another huge reach if we took him in the 1st round. After the Ponder debacle I don't see that happening again. I think they go defense in the 1st round and look for McCarron in the 2nd but, that's just my opinion.GBFavreFan wrote:Nearly every mock I see has Bortles, Bridgewater, Carr, or Manziel available to us at #8. I think Freeman was totally screwed in 2013, but the stink and memory of that debacle is still there, so no matter how good he may or may not be, he can't do it here.

Saw Ponder today working at the Target store....dropping boxes and looking confused and overwhelmed by the awesome responsibilities of men's wares. I guess he opted for a new career....

It doesn't matter how many holes need to be filled, you put a number one crisis priority on the most important hole. You make sure you have that ammo to get it done, the rest can be filled later as that QB developes.IrishViking wrote:

And put all the future eggs in McCarrons basket? Complete waste of time imo. You do 1 of 2 things to assure you get the QB you need, trade whatever it takes to get into the top 3 this year, or trade your 1st this year and stockpile ammo for next year. Anything else you run the same risk of wasting 3 more years on a Ponder esque passer. Sure they can be found in round 2,3,4, but this franchise hasn't proven to me they can find one there. If you are going to take the gample in those rounds, take 2 of them, back to back if need be. I guess thats 3 things.radar55 wrote: The projected draft positions for these Q/B's are going to change all most weekly between now and May. Where they ultimately get picked......who knows. For those who want Carr, he will be there in round 2 or maybe even day 2. You could also draft one, and try and trade for Barkley from the Eagles. He was a top prospect at one time, was viewed as a guy that had the tools, all the sudden he doesn't have that? I believe Norv could find a QB in Barkley.

If Cassel stays, he's the starter. Then he can mentor the next QB drafted this year.

I think there's a serious chance that Zimmer takes Carr with our first pic.
New coach needs to pick his own QB, develop him and ride him, if he can. And I like Carr - I think he can be groomed to be legit.

I think that's pretty much it. If Zimmer commits, I think he stays.radar55 wrote:I think its far to early to tell. I hope its Cassell. But, woud he be willing to stay for just one more year as a 1 year starter? That, I think, is what our problem is.

I would think Zimmer would rely on Turners input on this decision.headless_norseman wrote:
