How much of the Zimmer hiring do you speculate is due purely to his personality being 180 degrees the opposite of that of Leslie Frazier?

I have no doubt that Spielman and the Wilfs feel that Zimmer is qualified to be an NFL head coach, but I wonder if the chief decider was the feeling that the team needs a fire lit under their butts. This comes back around to what many feel is an air of hubris about Spielman. If Spielman is thinking that he's done his job and has put a sufficient amount of talent on the Vikings roster to be a playoff team, then his thinking would be that they just need a better motivator. Not a smarter coach, or a better game manager, or a better defensive mind, but a guy who is going to come in and kick some ašs.

I'm listening to KFAN right now and Judd Zulgad was just pointing out that Zygi essentially hired the first coach he met with again. I thought was an amusing observation but the difference, of course, is that Spielman interviewed several candidates first.

I don't think this hiring is going to be credited to Zygi either way, however good or bad it turns out.

But the thing is, Zimmer is not only a fiery guy, but he is a great strategist too. He always seems to put his players in positions to succeed. Plus, he can develop talent and put guys who are 'done' in a position to succeed.

Very excited about this hire. It seems Zimmer gets the most out of his players. If the rumors about hiring Turner are true, it could be a dream team staff.

Zimmer joined the Bengals in 2008 as the team’s defensive coordinator. Virtually overnight, he converted a defense that ranked No. 27 or worse in four of the five seasons preceding Zimmer’s arrival, into a defense that would go on to rank in the top-seven in four of the past five years, including 2013 where they ranked third in the NFL (and first in the AFC).

Exact same with Vontaze Burfict. He was always that true football player type. Just had personality "problems."
theres more than 2 players on their defense

Which makes him a highly qualified defensive coordinator. He wasn't hired to be the Vikings defensive coordinator.

According to the program, Whisenhunt went to the Titans over the Lions because Tennessee offered him $ 1 million more in salary though Tennessee lacks what Whisenhunt was looking for, a franchise or at least, a stable-type of Quarterback.

Zimmer in all likelihood deserves this chance no matter what team. I believe I heard some excerpts of things he had told the press before as well. Exciting.
The Lions actually already hired Jim Caldwell.

I'm very aware, but you specifically used Pacman as an example and that didn't fit your analysis.

We don't know yet whether he is qualified to be a head coach, but that's why we're fans not decision makers, I guess.

But how doesn't that relate to a head coaching vacancy? Don't you want your head coach to not be a tad fiery, a great motivator, a strategist, and can put his players in a position to succeed?

I think all those things will contribute to it, along with a talented roster. It remains to be seen, all we can do is wait and see. I am confident and positive, but I always am when it comes to the Vikings haha. I would be excited for this upcoming season even if Frazier was still our head coach.

Excited -- hopefully dude can turn around our pass rush and maybe do wonders for a guy like Greenway who's gotten so much love for the "tackle" stat.

The Lions hired their new head coach before the Vikings. The Vikings only got their pick in ahead of the Browns, which is far and away looking like the worst head coaching job in the NFL. At least two candidates have already pulled their names out of consideration for that job.

Thaaaank you. I love Greenway, but he gets a pass from most casual fans because of his high tackle count. He did not play well at all last season.
