About time the Vikings got an in your face coach! The press conferences are going to be epic! Let's bring some excitement back!

Amen to that.dead_poet wrote: Zimmer isn't a miracle-worker. We need more talent on the defensive side of the ball.
Yeah! Bring the excitement back to those press conferences!NDVikeFan wrote:About time the Vikings got an in your face coach! The press conferences are going to be epic! Let's bring some excitement back!
... and... er... win some games too!
I hope this move works out well for everyone involved. I'm eager to see what kind of staff Zimmer will be able to put together and even more eager to see what the Vikes do with their personnel this offseason.

Ha, what I meant is that the defense is going to get better - as in not an immediate fix, but it is going to get better (over time).dead_poet wrote: Zimmer isn't a miracle-worker. We need more talent on the defensive side of the ball.

A Randy Moss fan for life. A Kevin Williams fan for life.

FWIW: Ben Leber's take:
@nacholeber: B/c of Zimmer experience with both defenses, he should hire Wade Phillips and run a kick #### 3-4. #Vikings@nacholeber: B/c of Zimmer experience with both defenses, he should hire Wade Phillips and run a kick #### 3-4. #Vikings

Agreed....we do need more talent on the D side but first we needed to get a H/C who is able to adjust the defensive scheme to help the players available. With Zimmer leading the way and some help via F/A and the draft I would not be surprised to see this team once again be a defensive leader in 2 years. I have not been this excited about the team in quite a while.dead_poet wrote: Zimmer isn't a miracle-worker. We need more talent on the defensive side of the ball.

I'm very happy about the Zimmer hiring. Very happy.thatguy wrote:
As for Norv, I don't know that there is anything wrong with this guy as an offensive coordinator. Yes, he's a terrible head coach, but those two jobs require altogether different skills. The great head coach is a true leader of men. The great OC is an Xs and Os wizard.
In short, just because Norv succeeded in Dallas with a great OL and the Triplets doesn't make him great, but just because he failed as a head coach in DC, Oakland and SD doesn't mean he can't be great as an OC The guy is certainly experienced -- and he's certainly won big as an OC. I have to assume that a winner like Zimmer wouldn't hire him unless he could do the job ... and complement Zimmer very well.

Wasn't going to buy tickets while in the big 10 dump, but if he brings in norv turner I'll buy season tickets.
Re: The Vikings 9th Head Coach is...
Kubiak would be an awesome hire for OC as well. Has some good experience working with some very, very successful QBs over his time in the NFL. Even if it wasn't an OC job, if they could bring him in in some capacity, that'd be awesome.

Miracle worker he is not. And keep in mind that just because defense is his specialty, doesn't automatically mean they will field a top tier defense.
We all remember the guru that is Brian Billick and how his tenure in Baltimore was backed not by a great offense, but by an astounding defense.
What I'm excited about is his demeanor and attitude that he'll bring.

It's going to be exciting this off-season and coming season!

Agree with this 100%. We need to be patient. It's not going to happen overnight, but give it some time, and we will hopefully reap the benefits of this hire.PacificNorseWest wrote:Miracle worker he is not. do you know how many 4th, 5th and 6th round picks he turned into legitimate starters? look at what he did with pacman jones. the man has skills.dead_poet wrote: Zimmer isn't a miracle-worker. We need more talent on the defensive side of the ball.

Pac man Jones was always a very good talent though. It was his attitude and off field decisions that was the problem. If anything he just molded Jones into more of a man, but his skills were always above-average.
Exact same with Vontaze Burfict. He was always that true football player type. Just had personality "problems."
