Re: 2014 Current and Potential Coaches
If Horton happens to be that unknown candidate and these rumors happen to be true, then I'd be very ecstatic with the options.
I really like Bowles and think he can be that coach that no one knows about, but comes onto the scene and makes a name for himself. After Bowles I rank it 2. Horton and 3. Zimmer.

I will admit that I was hoping for Gruden or Zimmer. Gruden is now with Wash and Zimmer left to talk with other teams so I am not going to hold my breath on him. As for your % and what is left proposition, what if your 95% sold on a candidate but you want to continue the process to find that 100% guy only to find out that everyone else you talk to is pathetic and thats what your left with because the 95% guy is now no longer interested or available. Again, IMO this approach Spielman is using is not about him making the correct choice, its all about him being afraid of making the wrong one.Mothman wrote: I think it's more likely that it comes down to trying to make the best hire. I hear what you're saying: if you're 100% sold on a coach, hire him. However, what if you're just 95% sold? Maybe it's worth seeing if the next guy can sell you on the extra 5%. Maybe there's a candidate Spielman is particularly interested in and he wants to meet with him before he makes a final decision. The idea that he's just covering his a## is pretty ridiculous. The best way for him to do that is to make the best hire possible, not to needlessly prolong the process.
It sounds like this is about Zimmer for you since you expressed your concern that the "FO is going to take their sweet time and we will be left with whatever is left" but "whatever is left" might include someone better than Zimmer.

You are correct....its the Alan Williams approach of finding a head coach

Zimmer, Bowles, Quinn
I think they hire Zimmer. Still like to see Wade Philips come in as an Asst head coach for a year to teach the 3-4 to an up and coming Def Coordinator like the guy at Wisconsin. I watched them a few times and if they would have had a decent secondary they may have gome undefeated this season. They would have beat SC for sure. That guy calls a sick defense. As in Sick EM!

Re: 2014 Current and Potential Coaches
What about hiring an offensive mind?, Greg Roman or Pete Carmichael? seems a little easier to find a Def. coordinator than someone who is really into offensive strategy.

That's certainly a risk but I think it's worth keeping in mind that hiring someone involves both an offer and acceptance of that offer. Spielman could have offered Zimmer the job on the spot and if Zimmer was interested in exploring his options, he might have taken the interview with TEN anyway. There are all sorts of potential scenarios.
Based on what? You're projecting a negative view of your choice onto the situation, with little if any solid information to back it up. Who says Zimmer is the best candidate for the job anyway? He's never been a head coach. He's interviewed for other NFL HC jobs and either hasn't been chosen for them or hasn't accepted them. You're basically ripping Spielman for not hiring the candidate of your choice on your timetable. You're suggesting Spielman is "afraid" because he isn;t rushing to judgment and hiring the candidate of your choice. It's ridiculous.Again, IMO this approach Spielman is using is not about him making the correct choice, its all about him being afraid of making the wrong one.

We need a defensive specialist. How about Schwartz for DC? He knows how to stop the Lions!

I just saw a report that if Bowles got hired he'd bring in Chan Gailey to be the OC. No, god no.

Awww man that would suck! I'd rather have Kyle Shanahan and I can't stand that whole family.

He was the HC for Dallas in 98/99. One and done in the playoffs both years. They played the Vikings in the wildcard and god dang...his play calling is meant for pee wee football

I dont know if Zimmer is/was the right choice for the job, you are correct. My support for Zimmer was based more on the fact that he is'nt Frazier. By that I mean his first approach to coaching is'nt becoming the players buddy. He actually shows some emotion on the field and is'nt afraid to get in someones face when they screw the pooch. I realize that alone should not be a basis for hiring anyone but I am so tired of the status quo. As for Spielman.....after the Ponder debacle the last 3 years, the money spent of Freeman last year and the overall play of the team I think he realizes that this hire more than likely puts his job on the line and I just dont trust the man. He screwed up Miami before they got rid of him and IMO he is on the same path here. I dont believe he is capable of evaluating the head coaches ability any better than he evaluates Q/B's.
