For comic relief - Jerry Burns press conference

Post by John_Viveiros »

Back to the old days of Bob Schnelker offense, via coach Jerry Burns:

And this rant came after a win - I'm assuming it was the 23-21 OT win against the Rams(?).

Pretty much the anti-Frazier.

A lot of the younger football fans might not understand that this is from the days when nobody cared AT ALL if a football coach was politically correct or not. There was almost no shock value to this interview at the time it was aired. Now, things are different. People sound nicer, but there's less freedom. I almost think you'd have had to be around back then to really get it.

A similar example could be taken from the old west. Back then, if you walked into a bar and there was a group of people playing poker at a table you'd think nothing of it. Today, if you walked into a bar (assuming you don't live in Vegas or Atlantic city), pulled out a deck of cards and asked people if they wanted to play they'd act like you were insane. The bouncers would immediately stop you with "You can't do that in here!" and if you asked "why not" they would tell you in a voice full of righteous anger that it's illegal. If you asked another question about it, they'd throw you out. Sure, nobodies losing the farm gambling at the bars, and you don't hear as many accusations of cheating, but what happened to freedom?

A more recent example would be seatbelts. Yes, wearing them saves lives, but if you're old enough to remember what it was like before the seatbelt "laws" went into effect you know why people objected to them, (and many still do).

Yes, the video you posted is pretty funny. Especially since they did win that game, (it was the one against the Rams). It gave me a good chuckle. But at the same time I'm glad to have lived in a time when an NFL coach could give an interview like this and say what he wanted without fear of repercussions. I have no trouble believing that Burnsy meant what he said in this clip. I'd have trouble believing Frazier's words during an interview if he said he ate a ham sandwich.

John I fixed your YouTube embed. When you use the YouTube tag, you only use the last part rather than the whole url. For instance:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fn6-SvsRRuw

You only add the bolded area between the YouTube tag. Just thought I'd mention it because it took me a while to figure that out and I'm probably not the only one.

Thats hilarious. I love the fuq counter. Wish Frazier had a little fire like that.

I wanna see Frazier go off like this sometime. That would be entertaining. I've been watching his pressers this year and lately it seems like he's getting close to blowing up.

Versions of this video get passed around pretty regularly among Vikings fans. I remember seeing several w/o the silly music at the beginning and w/ better sound so as to enjoy Burnsie in all his glory. FWIW. It sure sounds like a breath of fresh air to hear someone be this sincere. Today we only hear clichés and BS. I love how Burnsie says, "I don't like to name names…" and then goes on to rip into his players, even when he's fond of them ("I love Anderson, but it was a stupid f'n play!").

It's also fun to hear the names and remember the "old days" (for me). Jerry Burns is a legend.

I would LOVE to see a text transcript of that. Hilarious. Just one of the many embarrassments in Vikings History.

Haha this is why Grant was so stoic all those years, he had Burnsie for 18 years as his OC and he had him do all his ranting for him.
