Frazier and Staff Chances Of Returning

Post by Lash Man »

Ok just curious what do most people on this board think will happen this offseason with the staff ? I personally think they will keep Frazier at least one more year but changes to his Offensive and Defensive coordinators are most likely going to happen . I think Spielman is safe for now also !

Probably depends on what happens the rest of this season. It's a good sign that the team is still fighting despite all the negativity. There have been some critiques of D cord. by players, but I think Frazier still has the locker room.

Spielman stays but all the coaching staff, or most of them, are gone. Spielman said a week or so ago something about the organization being behind Frazier and he'll be our coach next year. That's really the only thing he can say at this point, Frazier is still technically under contract through 2014 so they're going to "stick with him" right up until they fire him.

This organization really needs to hit the reset button and put the Childress era behind them. Frazier has just been an extension of that time and Spielman is kinda guilty by association as well. They're all tainted, but I think Spielman has worked his way into a spot where he'll survive a big wave of firings. I also think he should have a chance to go out and find his own coaching staff...but the nightmare scenario there would be that he brings in coaches who run the team the same way. So I guess i wouldn't be upset if he got the axe as well.

Actually I think ( I don't agree, but think) that Frazier actually has a good chance of coming back for another year depending on how the rest of this year goes, but with changes on the coaching staff.

A very tiny chance for Frazier and the gang.

A tiny bit bigger chance for Rick.

I think they give Fraizer another year. Just because the Wilf's don't know football. And I think Ponder is here too. Its like my worst nightmare.

If our ownership knew what they were doing, everyone would be gone.

If they were the type of owners that screwed someone over because "they gave them too good of a deal"? Who knows. They're special needs owners. Will Frazier be gone? Will Spielman? They both should. But Vikings are cursed by jack #### owners so maybe neither?

I don't know if I'd go so far as to claim that the team is "still fighting". Hell, even the Jaguars won a game today. But I would say that, yes, it depends on how they finish the season. At the moment, I'd give Frazier & Co. less than a 50/50 chance of being back next year.

IMO, the ONLY chance that the Viking have, long term, is to get rid of Rick Spielman. He's quickly becoming the incarnation of Matt Millen.

The coaching staff will be gone. Spielman will return.

Probably not what should happen but I don't think Zyg is ready to pull the plug on RS yet.

Frazier just HAS to go and most likely his entire staff with him.

First of all, I don't expect the team to win another game this season. Just look at the schedule. And a coach should not be brought back after a 2-14 debacle like this will be. The fiasco that has been the management of the QB position should be fireable all by itself. Then on top of that, the performance - or lack of - by the defense (supposedly Frazier's specialty) has been a joke.

Nobody will argue that Frazier is a class act. A great guy that we were all rooting for. But it's a results business; and he's not gotten the results.

I agree here, the coaching staff is running a Childress type show. A play not to lose mentality in an era of aggressive pass offenses, brilliant. Not to mention, these guys actually were still parroting that Ponder is the guy earlier this year, as long as this crew runs the show it will be an era of mediocrity. The only thing that knocked this franchise off that course temporarily was Favre.

I think Alan Williams is all but gone. It's hard to get a read on Musgrave and Frazier. I think Musgrave has put together "some" good game plans and has just gotten poor execution out of the QB position, so it's hard to tell whether they'll get rid of him or not. I think the players like Frazier, but I don't think he has what it takes as a head coach. Frazier is the type of head coach that can manage the players, but needs strong offensive and defensive coordinators to be successful, which he doesn't have in this case.

GBFavreFan wrote:I worry because this organization takes WAY too long to make real changes. First of all, Rick Spielman will be the last guy to go. As for the coaches, since the offense and defense has so many measureable issues, I think they can justify firing only the coordinators and keeping Frazier. One thing we sometimes forget is that Leslie Frazier is actually an extension of the Brad Childress family tree. And honestly, there are way too many philosophical and playcalling philosophies that are too similar.

We need a clean slate for coaching. We need brand new everything. The Saints were the worst statistical defense of all time in 2012, and they add Rob Ryan as DC and they are one of the best in the NFL. This happens all the time. Bringing in a hot outsider as HC or coordinator to get quick results. But these Vikings are so slow moving and conservative I can only picture them making baby steps towards change. Maybe they fire the secondary coach and the o-line coach. Then we take a year to fire the coordinator. Then when that fails after another year, then fire the head coach.

I liked Frazier a lot from the start and thought and hoped he would be the guy and have a long and successful career as a head coach, but Frazier has shown me he doesn't have what it takes. His baby steps approach to coaching is a waste when you have so much ready-to-go talent. Frazier must go :(
In all fairness, if they made changes as swiftly as posters on this board call for them we'd have a new coaching staff and GM every other week. There are other things to critique about their hiring/ firing tendencies, but the speed w/ which they make those decisions should probably not be condemned IMO.

Frazier will be lucky to win another game this year if you look at the schedule. If he wins 1 more game he'll have two 3-13 seasons in 3 seasons. And if it weren't for the year AD had last year, 2012 would have been a failure too. A coach just can't survive that type of futility ... oh wait, this is the Vikings we're talking about. They promote failure. Yep I can completely see this train wreck returning for another season. Wouldn't surprise me at all. And if Frazier is back, Ponder will be back too.
