And STOP! You guys that are raving about Ponder now are comparing him to himself. Okay, so he was better last night than he's been most of this year. Comapred to a top-level QB, he's still ridiculously limited. You shouldn't have to dumb down the offense for your STARTING QB!

There's really no need to compare him to anybody. Is it that hard to just say he played a very good game and leave it at that? It doesn't mean anybody has to change their overall position on the guy.

He led the offense on 4 TD drives in 6 possessions, led them back into the lead from a two score deficit and was instrumental in keeping the Vikes in that game. That's not raving, that's just what happened. It's what we want the Vikings quarterback to do, isn't it? There's no harm in acknowledging the performance and giving credit where it's due. The next time Ponder plays he might stink up the field again and if he does, there won't be any harm in acknowledging that either.

Discussing Ponder doesn't have to be as polarizing as it's become.

Let's remember that Pondy was throwing against a defense that is as atrocious as ours. I live in the DC Metro area, so I'm totally happy for the win because it means I don't have to take #### from the legions of bandwagon RGIII fans running around, but we seriously need to lose out now and roll the dice once again on a QB.

I hate having a mini stroke every time I see our quarterback drop back for a pass.

Ponder did play a great game and deserves his props. However, in the context of his time here it is just the first Dr. Jekyll we've seen from him all season. In that respect if he has changed it is that we are seeing even more Mr. Hyde than last year.

I'd love to see Ponder suddenly figure it out and all of that, but at this point I still think the QB of the future is not currently on the roster.

Thank you. Ponder did have a good game last night and deserved the win. It still doesn't change my overall opinion that it is time to move on. (Others might see this as Ponder "turning the corner" and that's OK, but I'm not seeing it that way). Now if Ponder turns in 4 or 5 more games with a 100+ passer rating, I might re-think my stance. In any case, to not acknowledge Ponder had a good game seems silly. It wasn't perfect, and he had some bad throws (the same with any QB). He also had some very good throws (to the extent I wondered who had knocked Ponder out before the game, and was playing in his jersey ) Ponder turned in the 2nd best performance by a Vikings QB all season (statistically) and I think he deserves congrats on a good game.

Yes, Ponder turned it around after a bad first possession.

Here's the problem: We know his ceiling. And it came against a defense that is probably worse than ours. He is doing the same things in his third season he was doing as a rookie (under a really bad situation, yes). If that first read isn't there (usually a shoot hook, square-in or a 7-yard out), he can't locate a second target the majority of the time. And that isn't good enough.

Actually, there's been such a change-up in offense, I don't think we can say we know his ceiling.

I said we'd know more from the Redskins game from all of those dissing Ponder, now we will have to wait for Seattle for another decision.

By the way, not that it's much better but the Redskins are 27th in Passing Defense.

Big passing teams they have played, Broncos, Chargers, Dallas, Packers, even add the Lions and Bears to that.

The Vikings are definitely not playing the same game plan as a month ago just like the Vikings on defense played distinctly different in the 2nd half from the 1st half.

Hard to fathom why it has taken so long to make what amounts to simple logical adjustments.

Great post! Ponder was good to great last night and earned a game ball, like the much maligned DL, from my perspective. I was ecstatic that he led the team to earn a much needed win in a truly enjoyable game. Skol!!!!

Not quite as tight, but you are right that it looks to be a similar type of throw. If Ponder could play like that every game I'd be happy as pie and ready to focus on fixing the D.

Drew Brees has the same problem. He's always throwing to that Jimmy Graham guy.

Tom Brady was really bad about it a couple years ago. He threw almost 170 completions and 24 TDs to his tight ends!

Completions and TDs to TEs are just the worst.

Oh I see what you TRIED to do there haha. I'll just ignore the obvious argument and only talk about the difference in how those 2 guys use the TE compared to Ponder, which is in itself quite obvious, but I'll take a stab at it anyway. Yes, Brees and Brady can and do rely on their TE's often, but they do it vertically whereas Ponder mainly uses his as a safety valve. However a post trying to compare Ponder to Brady or Brees in anything, should automatically be flagged as trolling xD.
