Look, the facts simply don't support your assertion. He turned a 5-11 Eagles team into an 11-5 team the next year en route to 5 straight trips to the NFCC game, with a sixth trip coming in 2008. His teams have won at least 9 games in 9 of his 14 seasons, and this year's Chiefs are a lock to make it 10 of 15. He's turned around the fortunes of two moribund franchises.
IMHO Reid's biggest strike against him is Childress used to be one of his assistants. His biggest positive is that once he got rid of Childress, Brad hasn't been offered another job under him.

I'd take him, but the guy acts like an offensive genius, in Philly he didn't seem to be anything special. In Tampa bay they went through 5 Qbs leading the team in passing in 8 years. Never above average in yards or scoring. They were successful because of their defense...including that super bowl. Dungy and Kiffin won that Super Bowl...and Gruden is still riding high off of it.

He won the super bowl his first year...and didn't a playoff game in the next 5 years before he was fired. Do we really want another horizontal west coast offense? Haven't had enough of that?

How about Pioli? Chiefs are on the rebound, and he was the GM for the three years before.

Who knows...talk a crap shoot.
Demi, I don't even know if you're serious about Pioli, but it may not be as far fetched as some might think.

I live in the KC area and can tell you that media and fans here HATED him. I think he was considered a real jerk by Chiefs' employees and he got a lot of the blame for the team's 2-14 season. But even while the train was wrecking last year, a lot of national people often talked about all the talent on the Chiefs. And most of the team they have this year was put together by Pioli.

Clearly, the majority of the Chiefs' issues in 2012 were coaching releated. Another mark against Pioli was that he was considered kind of joined at the hip to Cassel, and of course that didn't work out. But I think the guy knows his stuff. It always sounded like he maybe needed to keep his focus on the football side and not worry about smaller issues related to the rest of the organization and things may have gone smoother.

That's where you're wrong. Guess which team currently employs Brad Childress? ;)

I'd love to have Jon Gruden as coach. I love listening to him on MNF. He isn't afraid to call people out; he isn't afraid to give credit where credit is due; he isn't afraid to be passionate, etc. I love it. He knows his crap, and I like his personality and accountability. Also, he hates the officials most of the time. Make it happen, Vikes!

Coaches are much sexier to focus on, but the GM is the guy who not only manages the coach, but also the scouts and stocks the team's talent coffers. The Vikes desperately need a competent GM and not the next Matt Millen, which is who Spielman most closely resembles right now IMHO.
 Surely you jest.

Matt "Picking Receivers In The First Round Are The Formula To Success" Millen couldn't orchestrate a decent draft if his job depended on it.

Nope, no jesting. Millen was bad, but Spielman is the guy who picked Ponder at #12, and then went into this year proclaiming he was the unquestioned starter for the team. Same guy who signed Cassel who the Vikes won't even consider as their starter. Same guy who brought Freeman in mid-year for $2 million.

Millen had his own challenges for sure, but the way Spielman is handling the QB position, the end result for the Vikings is starting to look awfully similar to what Millen did to the Lions during his tenure.

It goes a lot deeper for Spielman then just our QBs. I just think the Wilfs will take the easy way out, and fire Fraizer and friends, and keep Spielman. I wouldn't mind seeing Gruden here. He isn't perfect, but its a step up from what the Wilfs have brought in here.

I'd prefer Gruden find a job elsewhere ... Just to get his bubbly b.s. off Monday Night Football.
He certainly did some wonders with Rich Gannon, though. Can we get someone as a HC and hire him as a QB coach?

Something tells me you guys were the same folks celebrating Donovan McNabb's signing and expected a playoff run. Andy Reid's glory days in Philadelphia were 10 years ago. Reid and McNabb peaked over 10 years ago.

You're rationalizing all the way. His record speaks for itself.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

Pioli is out of the NFL. And handled the Chiefs for three years. They're looking pretty good now huh? Also had some success with the Patriots if anyone remembers them during his run. He's the one that basically built this 8-0 Chiefs team...minus a QB. how frustrating is that!

Chiefs winning with Andy Reid. Why? Defense! Who put that defense together? Pioli. Someone telegraph Zygi. Guy knows how to build a winner. Has been part of building a winner. He can put a foundation in place, which is what we need. He's available.

And he looks like Tony Soprano. (Whew, I was making so much sense there for a while i had to tone it down)

Pioli is still pretty young isn't he? Did he say he was never coming back. I would really like him as a real GM. But even as a HC, #1 choice. If its going to be done over, do it right this time. And he could.
