Vikings don't want to put Josh Freeman out there when he's not ready, however. If they can't get him prepared, Christian Ponder will start
Before people start stand up and flip your dining room table over (just like I did), I think this is more smokescreen and for show to act like they haven't "officially" moved on from Ponder. As ludicrous as the idea of Ponder stepping back on the field sounds, I take this as more of a sign that Freeman is definitely starting, then a sign that Ponder might be back. I think this is more PR for Pondergate. Go #12!
I agree. If they were considering starting anyone else, it would be Cassel. Cassel's worst game (against Carolina) is still comparable to Ponder's best game this year (+/-1 differential on the QB rating). Ponder is not starting, but the coaching staff would be silly to just give that up when they don't have to...
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!
Either way, I fully expect Freeman to start next week.
I guess Ponder could look ok against a bad giants team. I doubt it, but maybe the vikings could find someone to give them something/anything for ponder in a trade if he can.
Is Ponder the #2 QB on MNF because they are dumping him and want takers to think we actually value him, or is Ponder the #2 because our coach is clueless and thinks he should be #2?
Sounds exactly right, given how we know (or should by now) how Frazier and the conservative brain trust operate. I expect it will be Ponder, and if he looks ok and pulls off a win on Monday night, then I expect he'll also be the starter against the Packers.
No no, you missed something. Freeman is the starter, and Plunger is the backup, and Cassel, the only one of the 3 who has won a game this year, has been named #3.
