First 2 posters almost nailed. Although both of you should have been way off, if it weren't for stupid coaches who don't learn and our worthless cover 0 defense. More conservative crap almost loses another game.
But the real reason we won today ...

You're all welcome!

I also look at schemes. If Frazier and co. end up coming back next year ( ), it's almost pointless to draft a CB early. He will not be used correctly. The perfect CB to draft last year was Mathieu...a good zone CB who is aggressive and physical.
If that's the case that's WHY we need to spend a 1st round pick on a CB, someone with enough talent and ability that not even frazier and them can bring him down that much! haha.

But see, we took into account our stupid coaching, hence accurate predictions.
my favorite part about this move is that for the first time all year I should be able to vent my frustrations about our offensive line and weak defensive play and not be labeled a ponder apologist. this is especially rewarding for me because all those times I never even mentioned the P word....just that our line needs to improve and our defense needs to keep a lead at the end of games.

True dat. But what about the fact that we finally won one without Mr. P at helm?
that's great too! it's just kinda nice to be able to talk certain aspects of the game that should have nothing to do with ponder without people twisting it around to talk about ponder.

Or, Just as you hope the defense makes some stops late, there has to be, at some point, a continued drive made by the offense.
Here's a sobering thought though:
Quarterback's Passer Rating for the game: 123.4
Leading Rusher - 140 yards (6.1 ypc avg) on the ground
And yet: We still nearly go to overtime in this game. I think we can safely say we have to work on bettering our defense. Peyton Manning and Peterson couldn't continually maintain that level of performance to allow us to win games. The defense has to start stepping up more. (Today's stop at a critical time was a good step...)
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!
Only 2 in the 2nd half. 1 on the first play of the game...a whiffed sack.
Pretty darn good improvement IMO.
Big Ben was still picking things apart...but the sure tackling helped keep things in check. D-line did it's job late as opposed to the last 2 weeks.
This team should be 3-1....regardless of QB play, IMHO.
There's no quit in the steelers....our D played pretty good today. Harrison Smith needs to learn how to tackle BTW.
Breeze, are you sure you didn't fall asleep? I feel like I saw 7 missed tackles on Big Ben alone. That guy was throwing off our D-Lineman like they were rag dolls.
Here's a play I haven't seen anyone analyze here: on the last drive Rhodes goes for the INT and missed by half a second; he could've really laid the defender out if he'd played it smarter... on the one hand I love that he's going for it, on the other... he didn't quite execute.

I counted plays were guys had legit shots at tackles and whiffed. Someone getting a paw on Big Ben is not a missed tackle. I think the only legit missed tackle on him was the first play for the Steelers offense. There might have been one other.
They put lots of pressure on him today and forced him into some seriously bad throws at critical times....never the less he was right there at the end with a chance for OT. The guy is a brute.

Yeah, they did get after him at times and forced bad throws... but there was a stretch there where he got way too comfy and got in rhythm. He's a monster to be sure.
As for tackling, the problem IMO is more that our LBs and secondary don't always take good lines and attack the ball carrier. One of Bell's TDs for example was a showcase of our sorry pursuit.

No kidding. It wasn't missed tackles today it was guys being 5 yards or more away from the ball carrier. We just play a soft D. Me no like.
I only saw bits and pieces of the game on Red Zone but they got the much-needed victory and the defense finally made the big stop they've been needing to make at the end. I heard Phil Sims say during the game that the o-line really picked up their performance this week. If that's true, it's encouraging.
It's nice to go into the bye with a win. It looked like the European fans turned out and gave the Vikes plenty of support! I wonder if they had more fans in the stands than Pittsburgh today.

It looked to me like the Vikings did a nice job (or the NFL?) of supplying the fans w/ some really nice looking Vikings flags, which made it look like the good guys had more support. Additionally, some of the most hard-core Vikes' fans showed and it was super cool to see them there: that dude that wears the horns and purple face paint (he's a Canadian guy that would post on another board I used to post on) and the two guys with the jazzy purple suits.
