Should we trade for Freeman?
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... -want-him/
Josh Freeman is obviously on the trading block now, so my question is should the Vikings trade for him? The article suggests that we might be a possible landing zone for him.
Would he even be an upgrade? Can we turn his career around?

Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
Um..NO. He's one of the few QBs out there that's been worse than Ponder. He's likely not any better than any other QB on our roster. Wouldn't be wise giving up draft picks for a guy that doesn't offer much upside.

He torched the crap out of us last year. hehe
Pull yr 84 jerseys out.
Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
Let's put it this way, if we benched Ponder and said he was on the trading block, you think anyone would want him?!

Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
I wouldn't mind if they traded Ponder for him straight up as long as his deal was only for the balance of this season and at or less than Ponders contract. Freeman looks terrible this year but he has actually been very good at points in his career, unlike Ponder who has been below average to terrible.
Best case scenario is that Freeman turns out to be better than Ponder and he can be our 2nd stringer next year. Worst case scenario Freeman stinks up the joint and we dump him in the off season just like we are going to do with Ponder.

Freeman: 43/94 (45.7%); 571 yards; 190 YPG; 6.1 YPA; 2 TD; 3 INT; 5 rush; 20 yards; 0TDsPurplemania wrote:Ummm…….Freeman is NOT worse than Ponder. But he does suck too though, just not as much. I will pass. TBH, I never believed Freeman to be a franchise QB even early on when he was drafted and then threw for 4,000 yds last year. He just doesn't have the "it" factor. That said, if they're willing to swap Freeman for Ponder straight up, hell yeah!
Ponder: 59/100 (59%); 691 yards; 230 YPG; 6.9 YPA; 2 TD; 5 INT; 15 rush; 76 yards; 2TDs
He may not be much worse than Ponder, but he's certainly not an upgrade.

Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
They both completed about 300 passes, their td/int ratios were very close, their average pass distance was almost the same, QBR almost the same, Passer rating almost the same. If not for Adrian's epic season their passing yards and completion % would likely have been much closer as well.Purplemania wrote:The only similar stat was their QB rating, but this is why QB rating does not tell the whole story.
I firmly believe that Freeman is the better of two QBs, I was just pointing out that they are kind of similar players.

If the Ponder experiment is finally deemed a failure--a determination that will not be made until the end of this season IMO--we will look to the draft to upgrade the position.

Re: Should we trade for Freeman?
I wouldn't be lured in with the 4,000 yard stat. He only completed a measly 54.8% of his passes. That was good for 29th in the league (Ponder was 13th). Freeman threw it 558 times (9th most) to Ponder's 483 (21st).Purplemania wrote:The guy did throw for 4,000 yds and 27 TD last year (with 17 int too though).
We're really debating the tallest midget at the urinal.I'm not sure what's wrong with Freeman this year, if it's coaching or what. Schiano seems to be one of those I-want-it--done-my-way type of coach along with arrogance. A fusion of Chilly and Rex Ryan almost. So it may be coaching. It could be that Freeman has also been inconsistant throughout his career. But I do believe he has a higher ceiling than Ponder and he's proven to be better than Ponder and is better than Ponder and will be better than Ponder, so in the end I would choose Freeman over our lackluster QB with ease.
