Should we do what Cleveland did at QB?
I say we keep with Ponder and just let him develop. But if we do make the switch why not just skip over Cassell and play MBT?
I just don't see any benefit to playing Cassell. Even if he wins an extra 2-3 games we aren't making the playoffs now.

If the Vikings win their next 2, they're 2-3, then they go into N.Y. to play the Giants. The Giants are 0-3 right now. Then they play the currently 1-2 Green Bay Packers at home. This season is far from over.

Let's be realistic.Eli wrote:If the Vikings win their next 2, they're 2-3, then they go into N.Y. to play the Giants. The Giants are 0-3 right now. Then they play the currently 1-2 Green Bay Packers at home. This season is far from over.
10-3 would maybe get them a Wilcard.
9-4 might get them one but doubtful.
8-5 or less and it's over.
Away games left are NYG, Dallas, Seattle, Green Bay, Baltimore and Cincinnati.
Were have a home game in London.
Even if we run the table with all the home games no way this team makes the playoffs.
I see what your saying. Sure the Vikings can still go 13-3 but realistically this season is indeed over, when you look at the big picture.
Re: Should we do what Cleveland did at QB?
Dude, we just lost to the BROWNS at home. A team that threw in the towel before the game even started. A team that went with a 3rd string QB and no running game AT ALL, and we made them look good. We gave up 31 points to a 1 dimensional team on the road in a hostile environment that went almost a year since their last 30 point game.Eli wrote:If the Vikings win their next 2, they're 2-3, then they go into N.Y. to play the Giants. We cant beat the Browns and people still think we have a chance? lol Technically yes but in reality we wont win. We will be lucky to win 3 games this year.

Why does people keep saying that?Reignman wrote:Dude, we just lost to the BROWNS at home. A team that threw in the towel before the game even started.
DId you pay attention to the coaching of the Browns? That if anything said that they in no way have thrown in the towel.
We don't know WHY they traded Richardson, or why they started the 3rd string QB. But that, together with the coaching, made them far from a team that has thrown in the towel.
And yes, the Vikings definitely helped them, but I cannot believe that the Browns have thrown in the towel.

Exactly. Sure we can still go 13-3, than 3-0 in the postseason and have Ponder be Super Bowl MVP. But let's be realistic 13 games to go and it would be very hard to even see 7-6 at this point. I wouldn't even disagree with someone saying 3-10 the rest of the way as our schedule is brutal.JEC334 wrote:We cant beat the Browns and people still think we have a chance? lol Technically yes but in reality we wont win. I don't even seeing them winning next week at "home"

Wrong. This team is done. The fat lady sang. Off key. Its over. Even AD is stinking up the place. We will win up to 6 games top. The real question is whether we can get one of the top 2 QBs.Eli wrote:If the Vikings win their next 2, they're 2-3, then they go into N.Y. to play the Giants. The Giants are 0-3 right now. Correct answer. What team has had a 0-3 start with 3 plus turnovers in those first three games and have made the playoffs? NONE, season is over 3-13 again.PurpleKoolaid wrote: Wrong. That's it. New coaching staff and new QB. This team CANNOT move forward with these currrent parts.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

Please tell me that was sarcasm because if it wasn't.........
Re: Should we do what Cleveland did at QB?
When a team throws in the towel they can afford to open up the playbook and get creative. The coaching staff had nothing to lose so they tried some things, got aggressive and it worked. Then you take our passive overly conservative. We played not to lose again and we lost again. Go figure. How many more games do we have to lose playing passive before the light bulb goes on with Frazier and Musgrave? Well things are looking pretty bleak and desperate so I wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings finally get a little more aggressive and creative. Well maybe. We are talking about Frazier here. And maybe we don't want them to. Did you see that lame end around with Patterson? OMG this team looks bad doing everything. Our screens don't work, our blitzes don't work, our play action doesn't work, and the bend and break certainly doesn't work.Ohjay wrote: Why does people keep saying that?

Re: Should we do what Cleveland did at QB?
I think saying the Browns havee thrown in the towel is off the mark by a wide margin.
They sure don't play like it...nor are they coached like it.
By trading Richardson now they got another 1st rounder as well as never having to extend the contract of a #3 overall RB.
They just won their first game without him with their 3rd string QB. I don't think they will suffer much without Richardson....and it sure looks like they made a smart move at QB this week.
If the Vikes make a change at QB, I hope it's MBT. IMO Cassel is there for insurance to save a potentially good season.
We need more than a second rate QB to save our season.

They won't get to play us every week so we'll see how long that works for them. The Breeze wrote:I think saying the Browns havee thrown in the towel is off the mark by a wide margin.

As for us, if we do bench Ponder I don't really care either way. We can't seem to pass block so I'm not sure it matters much.
Re: Should we do what Cleveland did at QB?
I agree. To put it in perspective: Our last good QB (Favre) went 12-4 which translates as winning 75% of his games. For purposes of 'easy math' I will 'gift' the Vikings a win in London. (Maybe the Steeler's plane crashes on the way over - whatever). At 1-3, if we were to get Favre back in his prime (2009) we could expect to go 9-3 for the remainder of the season (10-6 overall). Slim chance at a WC (remember the Bears were 10-6 last year and they watched the playoffs on TV like us). That assumes the defense will stop giving up game winning drives to the other team in the final two minutes. The Breeze wrote:
