I come in peace (Bears vs Vikings)

Post by TheWinman »

Just wanting to discuss the Bears/Vikings game and get a perspective from the opposition, not hear to troll or trash talk.. What are your feelings on the game? Anything you need to know about this new Bears team?

I'm from the chicitysports.com forums

Any important injuries? Besides Marshall, who would you say your main WR/TE to make big plays are?

How do Chicago fans feel about the new coach?

I have heard of no injuries and I assume we will have an empty injury report again this week.

When Trestman was hired the feeling was lukewarm on him. We were excited about having an offensive minded head coach, but was afraid because he had been out of the NFL for about 10 years with his only head coaching experience being in the CFL.
He is winning fans over everyday in a huge way.

1)He is upfront in his press conferences. There's no trying to decipher what he really means like we had to do with Lovie Smith. He praised the team after game one, but made it clear there is much work that needs to be done and many things that need to be corrected. He then went on to say what those things were.

2)The now lack(elimination almost) of pre snap penalties is so relieving to us fans.

3)He easily outcoached Bengals coach Marvin Lewis this past Sunday. In the past Lovie was usually outcoached and on his good days was on par with the opposing coach.

4)We are impressed how the team (especially the defense) has bought into Trestman. Lance Briggs (a Lovie guy) giving the game ball to Trestman spoke volumes to how the team is buying into him

5)game adjustments - Wow, we have a coach who actaully does this, quite refreshing.

Really Jmarcus Webb? Why? Have any of you joined Jwebbnation? If yes, is he talking about his MOnday ritual of Mcdonalds or Taco Bell? I'm not sure how much information Frasier should try to get out of Webb about our offense. It sure seemed that Webb was having trouble understanding it. :)

How do you like your rookies so far?

I'm going to tell you that Cutler will rip this defense a new one, and your defense will have Ponder as their sex slave by the end of the game. Easy victory for you guys.

Briggs was Briggs but did miss a huge tackle that made him look like an overagressive rookie
MLB DJ WIlliams had a bad game but that is mostly due to missing all of training camp. He looked rusty and slow and it showed.
Anderson played real well and actually played MLB in the nickle and was outstanding in coverage.

Cutler should do real well. He is really buying into this new offense and has worked hard on his mechanics and it showed last Sunday.
I think he should do real well, but with a new offense there will still be some real bad moments.

Is the Vikings OL really that bad as it was made out to be on Sunday? I did not see AP's 78 yard run, but it seems like it was brutal after that.

Pass blocking wasn't spectacular either, but it can be largely attributed to Ponder running into defenders and having happy feet. I'll give it to DET's front 4 though as they are crazy talented. I'll be expecting the Bears to do the same thing the Lions did vs. our offense. Have the DLine penetrate, LB control the gaps and play downhill to stop Peterson, and have DB's sit back and reap the benefit of Ponder.

BTW, how's Alshon Jeffrey looking? I saw that he didn't garner much stat, but against the Vikings the 2nd and slot WR always kills us. I'm almost certain I should start Jeffrey vs. Vikings in my FF league :P

Yeah, I hope the Bears you the same game plan on defense as the Lions. But last week our DL played poor. I think Peppers didn't realize that the regular season had started, that being said I expect a big bounce back game from him. Melton showed the rust of missing most of the preseason, so I expect him to be better. Paea was a beast against the run.

Jeffrey is much better than last year. His offseason training with Brandon Marshall appears to have paid dividends. I expect him to get 7 catches for about 80 and maybe a TD

Speaking of Ponder, is the fanbase wanting to see Cassel at QB?

People need to realize one thing. A bunch of people wanted to see Webb all year last season. Well Webb got his chance in the playoffs and we all know how that went.

I say stick with Ponder. If we win despite of his play, and are still in the hunt after 6-8 weeks or so, make the change to Cassell. If after 6-8 weeks or so we are out of it pull him and play MTB.

I still think Ponder has the chance to "get it" and become a decent QB. I just hate to have to start all over again at the position if indeed Ponder can be that guy. Talk about frustrating. :wallbang: just imagine what this team would have done the last few years with a true franchise QB!

Seriously, if you want to know what the Vikings' fanbase thinks of Ponder, click on any thread. Within 5 posts, the conversation will turn to him.

I could simply state the obvious ... he ain't no young Peyton Manning.

But even THAT innocuous comment will draw heavy artillery from both sides, everything from "but if we're patient and give him another 3 years, he still COULD be our franchise quarterback" to "how DARE you use Christian Ponder's name in the same sentence as Peyton Manning."

Bears are going to destroy us. We might contain Marshall but Forte should run wild on us and some unheard of WR will be sure to torch Greenway in the slot

I think Ponder could be quite good if everything came together.....but I believe there are better guys coming out of college in the next 2 seasons who could be better than his best. IMO Ponder and Cassel are pretty much the same ceiling-wise. If it came down to a losing season, like someone above me posted, I'd rather see MBT in there than Cassel. But if we stay in the hunt and Ponder doesn't cut it or gets hurt, that's when I want Cassel.

The Vikings have plenty of other issues to deal with in the meantime.

What's up everyone? I haven't really posted in years here, but winman is pretty much spot on. Loving Trestman and Emery, loving KYLE LONG and JORDAN MILLS.

I have to say, I am shocked that so many of you are already predicting a Vikings loss. Do we need to remind you that you still have Adrian Peterson? Come on now!

There was a question earlier about receiving threats other than Marshall.

Most of Beardom is expecting big things from 2nd year Pro Alshon Jerffrey. He's a Marshall clone. Bears have some young talent that were inactive last week (Anderson, Wilson) but who knows what will happen this week.

Kyle Long and Jordan Mills are our two rookies starting and both have been extremely impressive. Forte is ripped as always, and Peanut is the same ole badazz Peanut.

It's just some gayboys from CCS. Nothing to do with the Vikings.
