Were you able to see the TN game? I ask b/c I know you're out of the viewing area like me. I caught it and thought that Bishop stood out as a real force. He had two tackles for losses in the first 6 minutes. I don't think I've ever seen Marvin Mitchell do anything that stood out in his whole career. The only hesitation I can see the coaches having would be for the reasons you mention: 1. is he fully over his injury? 2. does he have a firm enough of a handle on the schemes?
I didn't see the last game. But I thought he looked pretty good against the Niners compared to looking somewhat slow and lost in his first action.
But I agree that he is a completely superior piece when compared to anyone else we have at that spot....provided that he is healthy, which is my biggest thing.
If it were up to me, I'd gradually increase his reps and push him to get his assignments down to where he is not having to think much out there. I would imagine that part wouldn't take long for him. He has already been in the oppnents backfield several times in the last two games.
Unless Mitchell is proving to be a significant liability.....keeping Bishop's reps down until after the bye week is fine by me, since the bye is so early anyway.
Who knows for sure with the injury he had? Maybe he'll start week 2.
I'm not knowledgable enough to know how disruptive it might be for Greenway and Henderson to have two guys in and out on the other side. But if Bishop is not up to snuff scheme-wise, it would be bad coaching IMO, to put him out them when Mitchell knows the system.
