There is no way the Vikings cut Webb. The reason he stayed on the roster as a QB all these years is because he's big, strong, and athletic. Now that he may have found his role, they won't let him go.
I hope MBT lights it up tonight -- even though it'll be against 2nd/3rd stringers.

Mauti doesn't needs to prove a thing, except maybe where he should be on the depth chart. As far as raw talent is concerned, he's most likely better than any LB on the team except for Chad Greenway. Time will tell, but he could even be better than Greenway.
I don't care what boilerplate babble you hear coming from coaches about everyone being on equal footing in competing for jobs - draft position plays a HUGE role in the evaluation of players early in their careers. We're going to see Patterson on the wrong end of countless incompletions this year, but Mauti may not play a down.

Let's hope he doesn't. If he does, it will be due to injury or utter incompetence among our starters.

And if Mauti had been a 2nd round draft choice? (Where he likely would have been if not for his injury history.) Would you say the same thing - that he shouldn't play a single down this year??

The fact remains that Mauti has had three serious knee injuries. It's fun to speculate and play the "what if" game, but there's legitimate reason to believe that these injuries have taken such a toll on his body (speed, reaction, strength, etc.) that he may never play a meaningful amount of snaps for an NFL team, or if he does, never to make much of an impact. I'm pulling for him, but the deck is stacked against him. Not many guys can recover from three knee major surgeries and have productive NFL careers.

Going to the game tonight! When my gf and i bought the tickets I actually thought it was for the 3rd game but of course that was away at SF! Ah well, still fun to see some of the guys battling to make the team. Hope Patterson gets to play some!
