All-time Favorite Vikings Moment

(Not sure if something like this has been posted in the past…and I’m not searching for it!)

We all have our favorite games, years, players, coaches (or…least favorite lol), etc. but what is everyone’s favorite moment? Just one moment in time that sticks out in your mind as the *best*.

If you could find a video of it from YouTube, that is even better!

Anyways, to sum mine up in a few words: the Greg Lewis Touchdown!

Do I need any more explanation than that? Probably not. But I will go on anyway. I’m bored on this Saturday afternoon so…

Back in April of ‘09, I got a wild hair one day and decided to look up Vikings season tickets. Long story short, I called my bank and told them to take the limit off of my debit card, and I ordered my season tickets right then and there. That day, I decided I was moving to Minnesota. lol. You only live once! In July, I headed up there and the rest is history. Here I was, this crazy 22-year-old who moved to Minnesota just for the Vikings. My family all understood it—because they know I’m some kind of fanatical weirdo—but my new coworkers up there couldn’t believe it. “No, seriously, you moved up here just because of the Vikings? No family? No friends? Just the Vikings?” Yep, pretty much.

Obviously, shortly after I arrived, so did Mr. Fav-ray. I don’t need to explain it, y’all already know…’09 was AMAZING, aside from a few bumps in the road and that last game. This is about favorite Vikings moments though—not suicidal ones—so I won’t go there. But, 2009 was just the best ever. I moved up there randomly, had awesome season tickets (Section 115, row 15, Vikings tunnel/corner of the end zone), and we just kicked butt all over the place—all year long. It. Was. Amazing.

My favorite games were vs. the Packers on Monday Night and the spanking we gave the Cowboys in the playoffs, but if I had to narrow it down to ONE single moment as the true highlight of that year—and my fanhood in general—it would be the Greg Lewis touchdown. I’m sure you all remember, so I don’t need to explain the significance of that one play. But to this day, I watch the video—and I get chills. It takes me back, and it’s just an awesome feeling.

The Dome was fairly quiet. Thousands of people were leaving. Everyone was depressed. I was thinking: “Are we seriously going to lose to the freakin’ Niners? Oh my God. Really?” All the fans were blah. Anyone who has attended a game when things aren’t going so hot…you know what I’m talking about! I honestly didn’t think we were going to pull it out. We were about rotten the entire game, but I refuse to leave until it’s over. I don’t care if we are winning or losing—I’m not leaving until it’s over! I’m not a lame-o who tries to beat the traffic or is too much of a coward to watch their team get spanked! I can take it. lol. So anyways, I’m just sitting there trying to stomach the last few moments…and then it happened. The Dome went from extremely quiet to completely crazy in one second! Everyone jumped up; beer, popcorn, nachos, etc. all went flying; everyone was screaming and jumping up and down. And, this lady who sat next to me the whole game—and we talked a bit—she looked at me and we smiled and hugged as if we knew each other. Then we went back to jumping around like idiots. It was simply the best. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Preferably, it would have been on MY side of the field, but you can’t win them all! I saw plenty of touchdowns on my end that year, so I can’t complain too much.

Needless to say, none of the other games were even close that year. The Packers game gave me a few heart attacks, but it was mostly gravy all thereafter.

Anyways, after that huge, unnecessary story…here is MY all-time favorite Vikings moment:

Moment. Not game. ;) But, I suppose games will do. lol.

For me, I have *moments* that really stick out to me more so than whole games...this one in particular.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing/hearing favorite moments that I've never even heard of. I'm sure there were a lot back in the day.

Cool story, welcome to Minnesota :)

Moment is a toughy. I will have to think on that for a bit. Berrian's 99 yard TD comes to mind for sure (long personal story why, but trust me, it is meaningful for me).

Actually, I'm back in Iowa. My Minnesota life was short-lived. Too expensive! Holy cow! I'll be back though; I just have to finish college first...and really think it through this time. lol. Thanks, though.

I remember that touchdown. :) I was watching it before work, and my Grandma was trying to sleep on the couch. I jumped up out of the chair and was freaking out. Oops! Sorry Grandma! ;) After stopping them at the goal line, right?

Anyways, share your long, personal story. I did! :D

When I first read this, I was all confused. I was like, I'm not going to any football games there. lol.

Anyways, my schooling is all online. It's the route I had to go so I could still work. Gotta be able to afford Vikings games, right?

But UNI and Iowa State are both good, I'm sure. If I was younger--and not already committed to work/bills--I'm sure I would enjoy going to school on campus. I started work right after school though, so I'm having to go back. Oh well! It'll all be worth it. Just do a lot of research and whatnot before deciding. It's a huge commitment! Good luck! Personally, I'd go with UNI because of the colors...just sayin' lol.

Well, the length of a moment is relative. The highlight of the Turkey Day massacre, for me, was this kinda nerdy kid with a high pitched voice, in the house I was at, just shrieking with joy and ascerbic comments as Moss and Cunningham destroyed the Cowboys. When I think of that game his voice and glee is all i can recall.

The other game I watched with a cowboy fan....and the look on his face as Rice hauled in a long TD will never be forgotten. I'm sure I've made similar faces....I'm a Viking fan afterall.

Ahh. I forgot about that. Yes, that made that victory a little bit sweeter.

My dad and I are from Ohio so we don't get to see the Vikes live very often, but in that magical 09 season the opener was in Cleveland so of course we went. We dressed in our purple garb and walked through a gauntlet of insults to get to our seats, and if you guys recall we played pretty poor in that first half and every Browns fan within shouting distance let us know about it. When we finally got going in the second half the stadium was silent and after Adrian had his run where he just threw the browns defender off of him like a rag doll, all of those supposed loyal browns fans began mass exiting. It was a great sight, and a great run.

Backstory: I don't remember which season it was, but it was the year the Cowpies had some huge to-do over a draft pick/acquisition...I think drugs were involved... Had to be between 2001-2004. However, before preseason et al, when the schedules came out, I started giving a guy I worked with crap about the 'pies and we made a small wager on the game. Of course, word of this got around our small plant quickly, the Vikings chick vs. the Cowpies dude. All was well until said incident and 'pies dude started wiggling a bit re the bet. No way was I letting him off the hook! Fortunately, we won.

Moment: When I walked into work that Monday, before I could even clock in, the scheduling manager (grinning widely) drug me over to 'pies dude to collect my winnings in front of an audience! It was an absolute hoot! He never bet against me again :v):
