Desmond Bishop - LB - Free Agent

Updating a previous item, free agent ILB Desmond Bishop will visit the Vikings on Tuesday.

The Vikings are arguably the most linebacker-needy team in football with Marvin Mitchell currently slated to start on the weak side. They'd suddenly have a formidable corps if Bishop became the starting Mike 'backer with Erin Henderson at Will and Chad Greenway at Sam. Coming off an injury-wrecked season, Bishop's physical will be critical as to whether Minnesota makes him an offer.

Not too shabby, but how much money do we have left? Don't we have other people to sign?

Think we have about $8.5 million in space right now. With 3 to sign.

Awesome. I thought we had way less than that. That's doable!

And I think Walsh is a tad bit underpaid! He's much, much more valuable than a lot of the guys that earn around what he does. Poor guy! He'll get a big paycheck later on.

I'm loving this so far!!!!!! I hope we give him a shot!!!!

As for injury concerns. I think people panic too much when it comes to season injuries. They treat season injuries like career ending injuries. I think with our medical staff, which I think is one of the best medical staffs in the NFL, will do a good job keeping him healthy.

Yeah teams will be trembling at the thought. Formidable isn't the first word I'd use...it wouldn't even be in the discussion. Closer to 30 then not, coming off a significant injury, and hasn't played in the defense before? I assume he was a better fit for the 34 considering where he ended up? Can he cover? If not sounds like a guy Frazier would love.

Who knows, maybe this will be a Bryce Paup situation. He left the Packers and went to the Bills and the first year there he was the defensive player of the year.

So Demi, you're against the team bringing him in? Since you were all for bringing in Urlacher then obviously you're aware that we have a huge need at LB. Why not take a look at this guy? Yes, the guy has some injury red flags but that shouldn't disqualify him. And I'm sorry, the "close to 30" argument doesn't always work. If his hammy checks out fine and the team thinks they can fit him in their D scheme then why not?!

Urlacher had more experience then our Dcoordinator in this defense. And the skill set, he was a leader. He had as many interceptions last year as Bishop has had in his career and only two fewer pass defenses.

We've played both of them twice a year since they entered the league. Which would you rather have? At any point did anyone ever think "Gee, I'd love to see that Desmond Bishop guy in purple". More like though "Desmond who? Where?" A thumping run defending 34 middle linebacker. That's what we need in our cover 2! Who couldn't even fully participate because he's still not fully recovered.

AKA "don't let him leave." MT @RapSheet: Along with the #Vikings today, ex-Packers LB Desmond Bishop is set to visit with #Chiefs Thursday

I'll take the younger LB who has actually won a super bowl.

Urlacher was done, so done that now he's actually retired. Meanwhile, your typically dismissive comments about Bishop suggest maybe you weren't paying attention to what he actually did on the field. The guy can play. Hopefully, he's healthy and the Vikes can sign him to a good deal for everyone involved.

Actually I rather have Bishop in the middle. Erin Henderson gone and then Hodges starting in the middle.

Frazier was unusually vague when asked about Bishop but said any visit would not be a reflection on Henderson. Hmm. #Vikings.

Been consistent on it. RT @1500ESPNJudd: Asked Erin Henderson if he had his heart set on playing middle linebacker: "I'm playing the Mike."
