Farewell Kluwe

Some additional thoughts:

Why, after eight solid seasons, was it time to let Chris Kluwe go? Priefer said he had met with Kluwe in both the 2011 and 2012 offseasons calling for greater consistency and productivity. At the end of last season, the special teams coach didn’t feel Kluwe had met the demands.

“We didn’t get the results we wanted. So we made a change,” Priefer said. “Nothing against Chris personally. That’s the NFL. You’re measured on productivity. If I don’t do my job there, I’m going to lose it. And in order for me to do my job better, I felt we needed an upgrade at that position.”
Priefer also felt an urge to plan ahead with the 2014 and 2015 seasons removing eight indoor contests from the Vikings’ schedule as they move home games to TCF Bank at the University of Minnesota.

“There has been a portrayal in the media that Chris and I were enemies,” Priefer said. “In my opinion, nothing could be further from the truth. I respect the guy. I think he’s done great things in this league. And I respect him for his views and opinions just as he think he respects me for mine. We just needed a change.”

I miss Kluwe already, but I think he's in a good spot over there in Cali. And as far as playing at TCF, I get that. Kluwe expressed some anxiety about that during the draft party. So, maybe it was for the best. I think we'll all miss the man more than the actual production on the football field--unless the new guy comes in and plays like a Sally.

Kluwe should be the star player in Oakland since all they do is punt the ball anyway. He literally could have not been at a better organization. He should have fun there. Good Luck to Kluwe.

Yeah it's Locke. Some thought Cassel might do that job but it doesn't look to be the case.

that was awesome...looks like he's fitting right in. That was my big concern...Kluwe, Walsh(Longwell before him) and Loefler had quite a chemistry going. Looks like it's just rolling over.

I was even surprised they didn't get a LS as a rookie free agent.
I guess (and that's why Locke is the holder and not Cassel) they're trying to build
a new "kicking team" for the 10 years to come.

Actually, the Vikings signed at least one long snapper. Undrafted free agent TE Colin Anderson was a long snapper in college. If he doesn't win the LS job this year, they could easily carry him on the practice squad with an eye toward replacing Loeffler in 2014.

I would really be surprised if tyey ever let Loeffler go. It isnt like he is making tons of money. Plus, he is really good.
