I'd take that bet.

The Vikes have two pretty good DEs who are both younger. Allen hasn't expressed any great love for this franchise. I don't think he's the least bit disgruntled, just ambivalent. He'll go play for the highest bidder.

Robison's only one year younger than Allen and although he's good, he's no Allen. The difference in talent may trump the slight difference in age.

I think he really likes the organization and has plenty of money plus the 14mil this season. The other two are younger but I still think he is better(although Griffen could be a superstar). If this season's DE FA market was any indicator I don't see anyone breaking the bank for a 35 year old DE.

We'll have to revisit the idea of a bet after the season.

Allen was quoted by SI, or fan nation, that he's happy the Vikings are honoring his contract, and that it works both ways -- mentioning that some players have a good year and want to re-do their deals. He also commented that he has seen what Freeney and Abraham went through this offseason. It sounds to me that he's well aware of the apparent market value of DEs, and that he is pretty delighted to be making $14M this season. Hey, he signed the deal he was offered, and as far as salaries in the NFL and what the market will bear, I believe that he has earned the money he is getting paid.

It's amusing to me that some would define a down year as a 14-sack season. Is he aging? Yes, as we all are. I don't know what he'll ask for come 2014, but if they can find agreement on a two or three year deal, I would be just fine with that. At least one DE will be leaving come the end of the season. I'd be surprised if it was the youngest one (with the most upside to boot), so it will be either Allen or Robison ... Or both.
