SB Vikings

Post by MV711 »

When will the Vikings finally win a SB? This is a question that all long-suffering Viking fans want answered ASAP. My hope and opinion is within the next 2-4 years depending on many factors. Realistically there are so many factors, variables and intangibles to take into account that it is difficult to say when, with any high degree of certainty.

I would like to opine briefly on a few factors that come to mind:

1)QB play of Ponder or whomever.....Of utmost importance. If we can acheive consistent and favorable/productive QB play, this will be a major step to our goal.

2)RB play......Continuation of a dominant run game to act in synergy with a productive passing game.

3)O Line play......Continued improvement and consistency in pass protection and run blocking. IMO this is a major area where we must be dominant in order to acheive our goal.

4)TE & WR play......Improvement in this area will be essential in order for our QB(s) to be productive and our offense to flourish and keep our defense from being on the field too long.

5)D Line play......Improvement in rushing and sacking the opposition QB will be paramount in taking some of the pressure off the LB's and secondary, until they develop into units that can be counted on consistantly.

6)LB & secondary play......Continued improvement in pass protection and tackling will be needed rather quickly in order to keep pace with all the passing teams that we will constantly face.

7)2012-2013 Draft picks......Will have to contribute from day one in order acheive our goal. They must pick up the play book quickly and have a major impact on offense/defense.

8)Special team play.....Continued success with our FG kicker and a solid peformance from our new K will help our field position in critical games.

Other factors such as limiting injuries, innovative and unpredictable play calling, playing smart and with passion, coaching up players to their full potential, having good backup players in case of injuries and continued drafting of good players as well as many other factors will play a part as to when we win a SB.

Hopefully we'll get one sooner than later. A little luck would help also.....!!!!

I have a weird sense that the Vikings will have two very dominate years in '14 and '15 when they're playing outdoors. That's my guess for their Super Bowl victory.

There is nothing like a good NFL snowball fight. I think the Vikes would come out on top a good percentage of the time!

Lets see, I would like them to win at least one before I die. Now, as to this year. Let's see, Vikings are terrible in away games, outside. This years SB is being played in NJ, (away) outside. By that stat alone they have a 70% chance of making it to the SB this year. :wallbang:

Oh yeah, sarcasm off:

I thought we were like cicadas except that they contend for our attention every 17 years and we contend for the Title every 10 or 11 years.

So I'm thinking it will be the latter part of the decade when we next put together a team good enough to win the Super Bowl. What I don't know is (a) what new and bizarre way we will come up with to blow it (maybe one of our guys will remove their helmet prematurely in celebration, draw a penalty, and thereby put the opponent in a position to make the game-winning field goal), and (b) whether we will continue to blow it in the NFC Championship Game or actually return to the Super Bowl and blow it there.

Hey, you wanted for an honest guess, right?

We are like cicadas, but only every 11 years. I had noted this before. I was born in 65, and than I started adding 11 to the date.

76 only 2 losses, lose in superbowl to raiders.
87 lost nfc championship game to redskins on last play
98 well, 98. enough said
09 overtime in nfc championship loss. rules are changed, bounty gate.etc..

So if this holds true, 2020 is our next big year, and our next big disappointment?

Interesting observation. Every 11 years the Vikings emerge to rise up in great numbers and lose another championship game. Just long enough to mate and die, then bury themselves deep underground to live as immature nymphs, feeding on a sap of wins and meaningless playoff appearances. Until an astonishingly accurate biological clock urges them to crawl out of the ground for the next cycle, their entire existence dedicated only to keeping the species alive.

Don't discount the late 60s and most of the 70s.

SB appearances following the 69, 73, 74 and 76 seasons. Should have been there in 75 (Pearson pushed off). Far from every 11 years.

I'd take a re-emergence of that kind of dominance.

The 70s? Now just a distant memory that has fallen into the annals of folklore - 36 years and counting. Now we have The Cycle.

Oh no, and have one be 0-5? Awful.

I want any Super Bowl matchup that has the Vikings...winning. lol. I'd rather not do that to the Bills fans though. Those people GET IT! I have love for them! We gotta stick together! lol.

I agree, Melanie. I can't wish an 0-5 Super Bowl record on the Bills and I certainly don't want that to be the Vikings fate! I'd much rather see the Vikes win a Super Bowl by knocking off some team with more than their fair share, like Pittsburgh. :)

if Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer can win Super Bowls, Christian Ponder certainly can.
