What? I am, what my friends lovely refer to as "their token liberal friend" and I also read Seifert quite regularly. I have never seen anything that would make believe that he is inserting politics into anything he writes beyond the exisiting politics of football. Does he have differing opinions about various players and policies, sure. But that doesn't mean he is a monster and an idiot. Further how do you then explain those stats he puts up; you know, those numbers that are verifed and completely prove his point? I was as proud as anyone when I heard that Kluwe was letting his opinion be know but at the end of the day when his BREAKOUT seasons put him just barely into the above average catagory I am fine with a change. I hope he does well for himself. Can we please keep the kneejerk political insertion out of the message board?
Goodbye to Kluwe thanks for all the fish and don't forget your towel (anyone who's read Hithchhikers Guide to the Galaxy will get that one). If he got cut due to a performance decision OK, hope it had nothing to do with him having the guts to speak out defending free speech and human rights.

I believe this is a mistake. He has been a good punter for the Vikings, and should have continued with the team. With the way the offense struggles at times, having a punter like Kluwe really helps the defense. I wish him good luck with what ever team he lands with, except when they play the Vikes.

LOL! Not only do I get it, I also get why you're "KilgoreT".

They're basically hoping to replicate what they did with Walsh last season. Replace a guy near the end of his career with someone who has more potential. Worked well with Walsh at least.
Kluwe finishes his Vikings tenure as the leader in career punting average, with his 44.4 yards per kick ranking ahead of both Harry Newsome (43.8 yards from 1990 to 1993) and Mitch Berger (43.5, 1996-2001). Kluwe also had a franchise-record 198 punts downed inside the 20.

Exactly. And that move raised some eyebrows, too. I get it, but why not make the kid earn his job? Are there really THAT many more guys likely to contribute more than Kluwe would heading into training camp? Doubtful. That's the part that gets me. I guess Locke is a lock!
Either way, I wish Kluwe the best. He's a great man. I've been reading a lot of comments on other sites and articles--people are dogging him for being the "best punter in Vikings history" and such. Someone referred to him as the "self-proclaimed best punter in Vikings history." Everyone is so negative about it. It's funny, though. At the second draft party, Paul Allen kept mentioning to Kluwe about him being the best punter in history and blah blah blah. Kluwe was just like "meh" about it. The guy seems far from cocky and ridiculous. He seemed very humble and real. I love the man. He's great to listen to. I hope he goes to a decent team--if that's what he wants.
And...I hope this Locke guy is money just like Walsh is.
I accept that Locke is a cheaper option, but a better option? Potentially, maybe. He hasn't kicked in the NFL, so that is a statement that cannot be validly made. Something that cannot be undervalued is Kluwe's holding responsibilities. I know this may be laughed off as no big deal, but ask any place kicker how valuable the holder is to his success. But, this was a done deal longer ago than I would care to admit.
I do understand this is a business decision. Do I like it? Nope, not in the least. Will I stop cheering for the Vikings? Nope.

I get your feelings but Locke, from what I have seen and read has great potential and after looking at kluwes stat I must say that while I'll miss him I really don't think there will be a big drop off in our special teams if at all.
