I wanted Ponder to emerge, and I still hope for the best. If he turns from Ponder to Flounder, I'm all for a raising a new Cassel! I'm not in the Minnesota/Iowa area anymore, but from DFW. I've heard of Ponder for several years now.

hopefully this is ponders last year if he shows no progress. no excuses this year unless Patterson is a total bust.

What does the length of time you've been a Vikings fan matter when it comes to evaluating the passing game?

I've been a Vikings fan since 1969, but I have never once used that as ammunition for any analysis or opinion I hold. So I would like to offer this in the most respectful way possible -- you'll earn a lot more credibility around here by backing your opinions with sound analysis than you will by blazing your fan resume in virtual neon.
Well my dad can beat up everyone's dad on this board so my opinion matters the mostest.

Mr. J Kapp 11, I don't feel I need to earn any respect in the Vikings forum. I opine like all "our" forum brothers who pine for Vikings victory. I believe somewhere on page 2 a comment was made about people who comment who are "not" from the Minnesota area. I simply reiterate that I currently live near Ponder's hometown, and I've heard of his qb talents for quite a while now, that is all. Thanks for reading me.

Addendum: I do hope the Vikings offense scares and terrorizes all opponents in the upcoming season. A Vikings Super Bowl win is just around corner. Unfortunately, so is the curse for those who believe it.

I followed Ponder's FSU career right through his MVP award at the Senior Bowl. At 6-2 230 lbs. with very good atheletic ability and now having gotten 1.5 years of experience and aided with Jennings, Cp, a healthy Simpson and Wright, the sky will be the limit. He will be the leader of this team for many winning years and OBTW I will tell you now that CP will be a super star

IMO this year is Ponders year to prove what he got ..

He has Jennings a great route runner and solid hands receiver...

Patterson Fast tall rookie with good ball skills

Jarius Wright a quick receiver with good hands and speed

Kyle Rudolf a great TE with great ball skills

This should be more than enough for any QB in the league ... especially with AP

You're forgetting Xavier Rhodes a physical, tough cb !
Adrian Peterson is ready for 2500 yards....good god !! A 1000 yards and a super bowl win would be better however.

You're all forgetting about John Carlson...I guess you guys didn't really get a chance to see what he could do last season. This guy is every bit as good as Rudolph. He's just as physical as Rudolph with better athleticism. If the Vikings can develop that two TE package like the Niners or Patriots - Ponder's b/w the numbers accuracy would be that much better...

officially scary with ponder ? I don't know........ love the enthusiasm. I say give Christian one more year then target a franchise qb in next years draft if no progress is shown.

Carlson hasn't done anything the past 2 seasons (1 w/ us the previous one w/ SEA). You have way more faith in his ability to rise from the ashes than most of us! I hope you're right though.

At one point, perhaps that was true but it certainly wasn't last year. He really struggled and consequently has a lot to prove. I'm hoping that this year, he'll be more like the receiver he was in Seattle. He definitely has talent and if he does step up, then as you said it could give the Vikes a much more formidable 2 TE formation.

Carlson forgot about Carlson. He didn't show up last year. And I sure wouldn't bet on Rudolph not developing into a better all-around TE than Carlson.

That said, both of them playing well would be better than just one. I'm hoping that Carlson can kick it into gear this upcoming season.

I am too although I'm just as intrigued by what Rhett Ellison might be able to do in his second year. Maybe I'm crazy but in the end, I think he may turn out to be the better player.

I'm afraid Ellison will remain a blocker and H-back. The Vikings still have too recent memories of Jim Kleinsasser and will do anything to find or develop another blocking TE in his image.

I've read some good things recently about Chase Ford, who they added to the practice squad at the end of last season. He's 6'6" with 4.7 speed, and is supposed to have great hands despite having only 16 catches in two years at Miami.

I hear what you dudes are saying about my boy Carlson, and I tend to agree. It's just that if all things are equal - Rudolph is not athletically in Carlson's league. I sure hope for you guy's sake that Carlson proves me right...As for Ellison - keep him at H-Back.

My dude is Joe Webb! I wished that the world hadn't have first seen him in the playoff game like that. Now his name is trash with any type of QB talk. I wish ppl would've seen him beat Mike Vick and the Philly Eagles a few seasons back, but o well. I'd love for him to just concentrate on receiver and read-option plays with Patterson. He should be used in a multitude of ways..

Also thanks everyone for hitting me with comments and checking out my Vikings article. It was my most successful one thanks to you guys. 40 Tweets and 450 likes on FB and counting!!! I totally appreciate it - by far the most knowledgeable group of fans on a message board...If you haven't checked it out - make sure you do and tweet it out and like it on FB!
