Progress for Ponder = how many TD's this season?

Post by headless_norseman »

Is it realistic to get 25 TD's out of Ponder this year?
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

65% completion, 3500 yards, 20 Td's, 10 Ints would be a good year for him I think.

If AD comes close to what he did last year and Ponder puts up those numbers...the sky is the limit :)

I think they'll incorporate many longer passing plays into the offense this year, with some success. But his completion rate naturally falls and his TD/INT ratio goes up.

59.5%, 3200 yards, 22 TDs, 18 INTs

I'm trying to rationalize it and see if we can get the team to around 25 recieving TD's, thus making it much easier for AD to rack up 1,500 and 12 TD's.

3200 is a good number for passing yards, but I'm a bit more optimistic about his efficiency. I'm feeling good about this...I'll say 24 TD's and 11 INT's.

You're not reading our desire correctly. The number we are trying to rationalize is 25 :smilevike:

I only think Peterson gets 1500+ yards this year if the passing game struggles again. He'll need a little help, some measure of 3rd down efficiency, and some play calling that isn't totally predictable. But if the passing game actually gets on track, figure Peterson for about 1300 yards.

Run heavy because of the lack of viable options. They spent for Jennings, developed Rudolph and Wright, drafted Patterson. Run heavy will not work forever, they have to get more balance. Ponder has to step up for at least 25 TDs, can't wait forever to see the jump.

I see Ponder improving quite a bit this year and improving in all areas due to more experience, having a good compliment of WR's and knowing that he either has to s#*t or get off the pot with Cassell waiting in the wings.

30 TD's, 15 INT's, 3,800 yards passing, 400 yards rushing, 65% completion, QB rating of 91.....

My question is who do you feel more comfortable with the ball when its 1st and goal from the 7? Ponder or Peterson. Right now it is Peterson, and deservedly so since he is the best player in football. So in the majority of these situations at the end of a drive we give the ball to our back. For that reason, as of today, I will say no to 25.

We are pretty much set at WR. So im looking at atleast 25-30 TDs. If Ponder stinks with this group it's time for him to hit the bench next season.

It's a realistic possibility but I wouldn't expect it because, as others have pointed out, the Vikings like to run the ball and with Peterson in the backfield, when they get near the goal line they will often be looking to run it in first. Ponder's overall performance will be the best indicator of how he's progressing.

The WR corps still has numerous question marks so I wouldn't call it "set", just a group with the potential to be much better. A lot will depend on WRs remaining healthy and players like Simpson, Wright and Patterson all have as much to prove as Ponder (at their respective positions). In addition, I know I repeat this all the time but pass protection will play a huge role in the success of the passing game. There's a reason teams keep selecting offensive and defensive linemen in the first round of the draft! When blocking breaks down, the offense tends to break down.

Let me flip that for you. Who do I feel has a better chance on 3rd and long? Ponder. Call me nuts but I think that is going to be this guys bread and butter.

TD's via air
KR 10-16 TD's
GJ 8 almost all on 3rd close to red zone
CP 4-6
JW 2-4
JS 2
AD 1

So my low projection seems high i guess @ 27 but know Kyle is a beast who will see waaay more action as soon as CP/GJ takes some pressure off him. CP will have more TD but I'm saying they line him up in the backfield making him do his best AD impersonation (and returns of course).

~3200 27 TDs (80% on 3rd down) 13 INT. INT's are going to be a concern but seeing how the D's love to drop sure CP interceptions left and right I'm saying our luck holds out here as well and we get some lucky drops. AD finishes just over 2000.

Screw what I said above, 32 TD's 14 Int's. Skol Vikes!
