I've been a fan since the early 70s. Not sure of the exact year but I remember being real young wearing my Viking stocking cap and sitting under my dad's arm watching the games with him and keeping him supplied with fresh beer, and being the remote for him to check the scores of other games during commercials. I was born in 1966, so a pretty long time.

I honestly don't know. As far as I can remember I've been a Vikings fan. I would guess some time in the early to mid 70s. I'm 49 and I know I was pulling for the Vikes since before middle school. My poor parents could almost NEVER find me anything with the Vikings on it here in SC.

What would I do if the Vikes won the Super Bowl? First I would probably cry like a little baby. I would then put a Viking car flag up and fly it on my car every day. Of course I would have buy a case of them as they would wear out and need replacing.

In my opinion and experience, a "real" Vikings fan sacrifices their emotions -- whether good or bad.

A real Viking fan is one that has stuck with the Vikings through thick and thin, in good times and bad and one that has not jumped from team to team as a bandwagoner based on how that team plays.

Smashing your flatscreen possibly qualifies you as a little disturbed or maybe over emotional.

purple jesus: first off i love your name, and second off it is true. my girlfriend nearly left me that night, but she is still around and has become a fellow vikes fan as well. the busted tv was a culmination of my emotions after the 98 nfc championship loss.

Been a Viking fan since they started, never switched allegiance - I may not have always been "glued to the tv" all the years but they've always been "my" team :govikes:

In my previous reincarnations I was a bear, a lion, a meerkat, a lizard, and an ant. Even as an ant I was a huge Vikings fan. So my answer? Millennia.

I was crying like a baby when they were rapidly moving toward a FG late in the NFCCG in Jan. 10. I can't imagine what I would do if they won a super bowl. I might have to tell everyone to stay away just in case haha. Actually in all seriousness, the biggest thing for me would be to see the title game win, those are the real football games, the rest is all gravy.

Exactly. Whenever the Vikings make the Super Bowl, I'm going to have to watch it alone. No one can be near. Win or lose, my place is going to be torn apart. LOL. It just wouldn't be safe.

Wait, did you finish watching the game? What came after was even worse. lol.

Although that is pretty extreme, I understand how emotions can take over. When the Vikings are on, I couldn't hide my emotions if I tried. I'm actually not an emotional person. I'm pretty calm and level-headed for the most part. I'm chiiiiill. Not when the Vikings are on. I turn into a monster.

Example: All alone in my apartment last year watching the Vikings and Lions game. Sherels breaks loose for that punt return for a TD. At some point I go from sitting calmly on my couch to standing on my couch and running in place--totally freaking out. After the play was over, I thought to myself "What the heck did I just do? I am 25 years old. I need to settle down. This isn't healthy." lol. I'm always jumping around in my living room. 95% of the time I watch the Vikings alone, too. I just can't control myself. lol.

As far as the Saints game, I actually had season tickets for the '09 season. Row 15 by the Vikings tunnel/corner of the end zone. I took that extremely personally and to heart. I just put my face in my hands and cried. Nothing broke that day, except for my heart. Thank you Vikings!!! I was depressed for weeks.

I cant say the exact year in the 60's but my uncle always had season tickets and I would be taken up from Red Wing to the old Met Stadium. I was definitely in grade school and early grade school at that. One memory was that every time we scored in a game against the Bears it seemed the Bears kick returner would get to almost midfield (or further) with his return. The name Gale Sayers sticks in the back of my brain, could that be possible? I've never taken the time to look at some old stats to see if he returned kicks. I know it was most always later in the season as we mostly wore snowmobile suits or 5 layers of clothing. Probably went to three or four of those real old games. Have never strayed from being a fan since. A lot of disappointments in some big games but always been a die hard fan. The old Met brings back a lot of memories including Harmon, TonyO - my favorite Twin, Rod Carew stealing home, etc (sorry, understand this is a Vikings thread). Even remember the old 'Kicks' soccer games and Ace Ntselengua or something. Wow, that was a long time ago. Now I feel old (not really).
