I think this is the case because of the evolved passing games that a lot of MLB are taken out during these crazy aerial attacks...I think great teams can get by with mediocre MLB nowadays. I am perfectly comfortable going into the season with Audie Cole starting.
Yeah. That might happen. Even though I'm a bit concerned, it's hard not to be SUPER pumped about tonight's picks.

This Patterson dude wears #84 so he gets a 2 yr. pass with me (despite the duplicate picks traded), his highlight video is encouraging, he will be an upgrade with returns right now!

We basically gave up a 2nd and 3rd - we still have a 4th - to get back in the 1st for A 3RD starter. How often does this ever happen? We probably ended up with 3 long term starters.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

Thanks, great reel. He seems to have Percy's explosiveness, but has the length to do even more as a recieiver/wideout.

You know, you're a good poster but sometimes you make me scratch my head.

Just LOL at both these posts. I'd love a link showing me where he was called lazy. Because as a Tennessee fan who (yes, I'm highly biased towards him but bear with me) watched almost every minute of every game, I can tell you right now that CP was one of the few who never quit on that abomination of a team (can't say the same for Hunter). I can't remember him taking plays off as he was a bright spot in every single game we played. Or maybe he was lazy and just that much better. I guess there's that, but that ain't what I saw.

He's not the smartest guy, nor is he the most polished player, but he's a play-maker. Get the ball in his hands. People, including myself, will get tired of the Percy comparisons, but if we run plays for him like we did with Percy (lining him up in the backfield, bubble screens, short passes) he will thrive. And I'd be shocked if he isn't a top-10 kick returner for us.

Not denying the questions Demi, but remember, Percy Harvin was surrounded by questions too (health, attitude/staying out of trouble). I, for one, love the pick.

We got 3 players with solid 1st round grades so I'll give Spielman the benefit of the doubt. He hasn't been too bad in the later rounds anyway (Robison, Griffen, Sullivan, etc.) so we may still find a solid LB.
It'd be really hard to pull off those exact players, but assuming we were willing to use the same 2nd, 3rd, higher 4th, and 7th it could be doable. The problem now is we don't have any ammo to do anything if brown woods teo or anyone else happened to slide and we wanted to make a move.

If we can get someone like Bostic that would help a lot I think. Can't remember where he's projected to go though.

I saw him being projected to go somewhere in the 3-4 round range, I'm really high on him too and am hoping he can fall to us

Looks like another great draft for Spielman and company. Congrats to them for filling positions of need with 3 great prospects. Honestly I expected a lot of disapointed Vikings fans today who had lifted their hopes and expectations too high after last year, when I thought luck had a lot more to do with the great draft than most people were aware of. On the contrary it looks like back to back home runs for Spielman.

As to the question of did they trade too much to get Patterson? Well, only time can answer that but right now I don't believe they did. He was one of the best, (maybe the best), WRs of this years draft and that is something the Vikings needed badly. A low second rounder is a probably decent pick, 3rd and 4th rounders are pretty meh, and a 7th rounder is who cares. I just don't see them having used those picks to make a bigger impact on the team than they made by trading.

Excellent first round and hopefully they find a Brady-esque surprise on Saturday. SKOL Vikes!

The Troy Williamson comparisons are absurd. Laughable. Hilarious. Pathetic. Hilariously pathetic. If I've left anything out, let me know.

Also, could someone link me to these 'off the field issues?' I followed Tennessee closely all year and remember none. He's a good kid and plays hard.

It was a draft that few found easy to figure out, and after one round of the 2013 edition of the National Football League's player selection process, there were quite a few shockers that had most observers shaking their heads.

The Minnesota Vikings became the first team since the 2001 St. Louis Rams to manage three picks in the first round -- there was their 23rd pick, the 25th pick they received from the Seattle Seahawks in the Percy Harvin trade, and the 29th pick they received in a draft-day trade with the New England Patriots. The 2001 haul for the Rams ended in a Super Bowl appearance, and the Vikings are hoping that the additions of Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, Florida State cornerback Xavier Rhodes, and Tennessee receiver Cordarrelle Patterson will increase their chances to advance in the postseason. The last time the Vikings had three picks in the first round was 1967, and they grabbed defensive tackle Alan Page -- perhaps the greatest player in franchise history.
Yeah!

I am very excited about this draft... But what about a linebacker!!?? We could trade or 3rd next year(from Seattle) and a 4th to go grab Arthur brown or Te'o .. Any thoughts on the possibility of trading up again?
They would have to slide into the late 3rd round and I just don't see that happening. The 4th rounder we have left is a late one so it would probably take the 3rd for next year (also probably a late one depending on how seattle does) just to move it to the end of the 3rd this year.

I think we're pretty much done trading up unless they seriously start to burn next year's picks. We just gotta hope for the best and try and find a decent player at our picks.

You can bet Spielman has a good plan to solve the MLB position. He could use some picks from this year and possibly next to secure Teo or Brown or make a trade from another team for an established one. I have total faith in him. :)
