Grade our off-season
I am confused on whether or not we had a good off-season. I think Jennings will play well, and I like the Cassel deal. A-F, how would you guys rate our off-season so far?

B. Did as much as we realistically could. Added a top flight free agent. Got rid of a team killing head ache and got a haul for him. Picked up a desperately needed backup quarterback. Re-signed all of our meaningful free agents.
Considering the picks we have likely an A after the draft is over!

The draft hasn't even happened yet and the off-season doesn't end until the Summer. C'mon, man...

Re: Grade our off-season
Signed pretty much every one of our "own" free agents we needed. Signed the biggest need we had at WR with one of the top Free Agent WR's available in Jennings. Shipped out a malcontent in Harvin and got a Great return. Signed a very competent backup Quarterback in Cassell. restructured a few contracts to give us more cap room.
Looking at 2 first round draft picks that should fill needs. I dunno I don't like to sound like a Homer but I would give the team an A-. I really don't see realistically how much better things could have turned out. Would have went with an A+ but cutting Winfield keeps it at an A- until he resigns.

So should we just shut down the message board and quit talking until after the draft? Training camp? The guy asked a question for some discussion. Dont see any problem in that.PacificNorseWest wrote: A week into Free Agency?...Still pointless.

Well Espn and NFL.com both have pre-draft power rankings... Needless to say they gave Vikings little to no love. 14 on NFL and 17 on ESPN.
I'm going to reserve PR predictions for after the draft when we know what we're working with.

Yeah, although Free Agency additions are nice, the draft is always the integral feature, especially for a franchise so determined with building a youthful roster in the traditional sense.PacificNorseWest wrote: A week into Free Agency?...Still pointless.

So far, I'd give the Vikes a B or B+ but as others have said, there's a lot of offseason remaining.MamaGoThatManAP wrote:I am confused on whether or not we had a good off-season. I think Jennings will play well, and I like the Cassel deal. A-F, how would you guys rate our off-season so far?
I think they did a good job of re-signing key free agents and signing Jennings was a smart move. Releasing Winfield hurt them and I'm hoping they can re-sign him. The Harvin trade was unfortunate in the sense that it would have been nice to keep such a talented player but all things considered, they got a good return on the deal. Now they need to make it count with good picks.

The grade has to be incomplete because we aren't done yet...but I like what has been done so far.
A lot will hang on the draft.

I liked getting rid of Harvin for three picks total
Jennings I liked ..
Winfield not with the team not so much ..
Cassel was a good move .. Joe Webb looked terrible last year

Not saying I agree with the Ranking, but I think it makes sense from a 'conservative' standpoint. We were a 10-6 team that made it into the playoffs via a tie break advantage over the Bears. We were the 6th seed in the NFC and lost our playoff game. It means, arguably, we could easliy be considered the 12th best team in the NFL just based on last season if you assume we were the worst of the playoff teams. Even if you assume we were the "best" of those knocked out in the 1st round, that still puts us at about 9th.
Add the fact we just released our best defensive secondary player (not saying it was the wrong move, just saying what it is), and traded our best receiver, I'm not surpised to see the Vikings being rated around this number. I don't think the "talking heads" are particularly accurate anyway, but them making this guestimation doesn't seem so surprising to me...
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!

I'm not worried, they can rank low all they want I like it better when we win that wayJust Me wrote: Not saying I agree with the Ranking, but I think it makes sense from a 'conservative' standpoint.

Genius yet again from Spielman, as was moving down in the draft last year, acquiry and abundance of picks and still grabbing our target in Kalil.jackal wrote:I liked getting rid of Harvin for three picks total

The guy gives me such a sense of security, truly runs the organisation well.
