Now obviously for one sensational season, picking up Brett Favre was a fully worthwhile move but I genuinely worry about the constant rumours that have us linked with a host of players from fellow rivals.

Greg Jennings I can see to some extent, in his prime, he was a formidable threat who's all around attributes are up their with the best receivers in the league but in recent times, injuries have stemmed said production. If the Packers are so willing to ship him out, should that not be a huge hint that it's a risk?! Admittedly their receiving core has become vast but still, at his best, the guy should be able to hold off players such as Cobb/Jones etc.

As for the serious interest in Urlacher, initially I thought it was a joke if I'm honest

You cannot be serious? The guy looked like a battered old man last season, sluggish and weary, not to mention the fact that he's been injury plagued for many seasons prior now. Now I know he could be a huge asset in terms of experience but the guy's not going to take a deal to sit around on the bench, why downgrade? Our current corps is stronger as it is.

Once a perennial Pro Bowler, I can't lie, I respected the ferocious version back in his hay day but he's coming to the end.

As I've always uttered, the prospect of seeing former fan favourites of arch rivals flourish in the purple is enticing, but I sadly don't see it highly probable in either of these scenarios.

Yeah, I'm not really on board with pursuing Urlacher. He seems finished. Jennings at the right price would be a nice signing, although I'd prefer them to just sign Cruz & see if the Giants match.

Jennings is 29, so it might be more accurate to suggest this is his prime. He had a torn groin...tough injury.

The more I think on it the more I like Jennings. Don't know how serious he is about leaving GB though.

Urlacher? I can't imagine he has a whole lot left. But I don't know. Is he better than what we have....I'd guess, maybe.

Lovie Smith is gone and so is the Tampa 2...he's a cover 2 MLB. At first blush I thought this was crazy...now I'm not so sure.

I would have to Believe Jennings is serious. As you pointed out he is only 29. Even if that is passed his prime, its close enough that HE could still think he is in it. Would you want to be considered a top flight receiver but plan on being a back up for another season? I am sure he is hoping for a contract and a play time guarantee in Green Bay, but I don't think it will take a much better offer to entice him away.

As for Urlacher. Sign him for the One game at Soldier field.

Even a 'finished' Urlacher is better then anything we have now, or that can play this year if we draft one. Unless hes asking for a ton of cash. I personally dont think hes finished. I bet he can still cover better then Greenway.

First of all the Packers are still interested in keeping him. And its not so much that Cobb and Jones are considered better than him, its just how they roll. The Packers have used 2nd round picks on WR's since 2006 for the express purpose of creating a WR system where when a guy gets too expensive he is expendable because there are younger cheaper versions that can maintain the system. I wouldn't take the idea that the Packers didn't offer him a monster extension as a sign that Jennings is a walking frankenstein who will fall apart the moment he steps onto a football field, they just didn't want to pay the $11+ that Jennings wanted.

Although if he was a walking Frankenstein, that would be pretty cool.

living in Chicago I have been able to see every damn play of Urlachers career. He WAS a monster. Now he is a slow crabby guy with arthritis in his spine. He is too slow for pass coverage and any runner who can run to the outside edge is gonna escape him every time. He IS a good field captain for running the Cover 2 Defense, but I hate the cover 2 anyways. Too Old, Too Slow...bye bye.Havent we learned not to take Chicago cast offs yet?? McMahon,Berrian, Aromashadu, etc all sucked. If you arent good enough for the Bears, You Really Suck!

I'm fine with a "fair value" contract for jennings, I think he could really help us for a few years and when it really comes down to it, we need him pretty bad. He likes to play in the slot and with Harvin gone that should actually work out pretty well. Essentially he'd be kind of similar to harvin there but a much better receiver at the expense of the other crazy stuff Harvin did.

Then we can put simpson and wright on the outside and do whatever we want with our drafted WR, who'd probably replace simpson at some point as the starter.

As for Urlacher, I'd rather they pass, I just don't think he has that much left.

Hey, I loved it when the Vikings signed Jim McMahon! That was awesome. So what if he wasn't that good of a quarterback, he always was a lot of fun to watch.

I still have a few Brett Farve pint glasses, but I swear I had a Jim McMahon Vikings jersey many years ago.

I have no problem with the Vikings signing either Jennings or Urlacher. Both are positions of need, and we all know what both of those guys are capable of. I would have a problem with the Vikings overpaying for Urlacher, but Jennings is still 29...he's still a prime free agent pickup. Urlacher is maybe a two year fix in the middle that could help develop a rookie behind him.

I doubt that rumor was much more than an attempt by Urlacher's camp to create some leverage in negotiations with the Bears.
