What a terrible press conference. What a waste of 15 of minutes.

The goal isn't to entertain. They probably felt that with 3 significant moves in the past 24 hours or so, the GM should get out in front of the press for a few minutes and talk about what's going on.

Listening to Spielman is worse then listening to a politian. Cant believe he is going to let his job here rest on this years draft cause it doesnt sound like he plans on doing anything else. And AD may not be able to play god this year.
Re: Spielman press conference today at 3:30
LOL! I doubt his job rests on this year at all and if he plans on doing something else (which he almost certainly does) then why on earth would he step out and tip his hand at a press conference before something gets done?PurpleKoolaid wrote:Listening to Spielman is worse then listening to a politian. It was a "nothing" press conference in terms of new information but that doesn't mean the Vikes will just re-sign all of their UFAs and stand pat until the draft.

LOL Jim, i really do like most of your posts. But just about anytime anyone in the Vikes org. is critized, you find a way to stick up for them. Maybe thats looking at that bright side. All I see today is black. Pitch black. Im going to hit happy hour. One of my all time favorite Vikings was just cut, and Carlson will still play here.....inconceivable.Mothman wrote:The goal isn't to entertain. Re: Spielman press conference today at 3:30
Would you rather take a huge hit for Carlsons salary or have him take the restructured offer that he was okay with? He could of said im keeping my contract and not budged but he did and Winfield is old. Yeah hes awesome and I love winfield, i loved percy look at my avatar. Get over itPurpleKoolaid wrote: LOL Jim, i really do like most of your posts. But just about anytime anyone in the Vikes org. is critized, you find a way to stick up for them. The term fan comes from FANatic or fanatical.

I agree with Spielman's philosophy of building through the draft, however the team needs some supplemental pieces added through FA and I have been banging the Cruz dum from the get go of the harvin trade.
I wonder how "good" the conversation between Winfield and Spielman went? Did he release him and say "well Antoine you make 7mil and for your role on the field that is too much. If you don't take a paycut, you will be released and test the FA market and come back to us with what you have been offered" I could see that happening

Well I for one have a minor concern. I get that Spielman wants to stick to his philosophy, but at somepoint you have to play the game. Baltimore was built via drafts and FA. After a 10-6 season, so far this offseaon feels like a step backward, not forward. Is this too much of a step back just due to philosophy? I do not know at this point, but unless a big signing comes down, they are putting all their eggs in the Draft Basket. They better hit on their picks, otherwise we will decline without having ever opened a "window."
Jury is out of course...
That being said, the glass half full question to ask is who that is already on the roster is going to develop? What does the FO know that we do not? Is Childs healthy? Do they expect Wright to really flash? Is Robinson ready to be a stud at CB? Is Carlson going to become the TE threat we paid him to be?

Good points. I'm also concerned that while we appear to be getting worse, our rivals are getting better.mansquatch wrote:Well I for one have a minor concern. Happened or might soon:
Steven Jackson to Green Bay
Martellus Bennett and Jermon Bushrod to Bears
Reggie Bush to Lions

Re: Spielman press conference today at 3:30
One thing in favor of Spielman's draft day philosophy: FA doesn't always pan out. Reggie Bush has been on 3 teams and never stuck. He is basically still riding on his draft day hysteria to fans, NFL GMs obviously see things differently. I get wanting to find guys via the draft in that respect, they are "cheaper" to make mistakes on, plus you get time to make them produce.
At this point things look bleak, but I think we need to ask what FO/Coaches know about the current roster that we do not. They obviously still want to win games, so why do all of this? My guess is they think they see something somewhere. I don't know what it is, but that seems just as likely as their being totally out to lunch. I know, wishful thinking.

I'm totally fine with this mentality, though I feel like if we're clearing out so much cap space, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to do nothing with it. I'm sure time will tell with that one, it'd be really odd to cut winfield simply following the principle that it wasn't a good deal for the team.dead_poet wrote: Good points. Obviously the young players we just drafted will develop but I do think there are others who may not technically be developing but we'll see decent improvement out of like Simpson and Carlson.
As for the other NFCN teams an old back like Jackson could easily get banged up or just not have a whole lot of tread left on the tires. Reggie bush, meh, not overly worried about him heh. I don't know who the guys the bears signed are so not sure about them!
Point being I'm waiting till after the draft to see how I feel about where the team is.
