I don't know. Maybe I'm seeing this wrong. The business I work in considers this kind of silence to be professionally sound and respectable behavior until an actual negotiation is reached. I guess that's why I'm not seeing Harvin's silence or Spielman's reluctance to guarantee anything as being anything but appropriate business procedure for right now. When a decision is made and something really is negotiated, regardless the outcome, then I think that's when we'll get the bottom line to the story.

You do realize that a trade can't be completed til Tuesday, right? How could he have waited too long when it's literally been impossible to trade him until Tuesday?

I can see a couple scenarios here:

1) Harvin would only ask for Fitz/Megatron type money if he really doesn't want to be here. I'm sure his agent has advised him that it is a pipe dream to expect that type of compensation from any team.

2) It's a negotiation tactic. You start high, the Vikings start low, and eventually you meet somewhere in the middle. Kind've like Pawn Stars for whoever has watched that show.

We'll know more once free agency begins, right now the Vikings/Harvin are keeping their cards close to their vest and rightfully so as Harvin is still under contract and in no immediate danger of going anywhere soon.

Since we now know he will be gone for sure, I wonder what kind of value we will get? Hopefully someone overpays us

Screw it. At this point, I just don't give a #### anymore. Keep him or trade him, what does it matter? This ordeal has left me completely and utterly jaded.

This Yardbarker article takes almost direct quotes from Hartman's article on the Star Tribune. So someone just copied that and posted it as news and in Internet World that qualifies as another source.

No matter what Harvin wants, the Vikings hold the cards and his agent knows it even if he doesn't. While this is frustrating, the Vikes can just sit on Harvin's last year, pay him whatever he was due to make, and fine the crap out of him if he refuses to show/play. Plus, if they really want to stick it to him, they can franchise him for 2 more seasons if they are so inclined. Granted, his cap number goes up considerably in that case, but if he was inclined to push it he could conceivably be sitting there for up to 3 seasons of the prime of his career.

In short, Harvin needs to balance his wants with the team's needs. This isn't the University of Florida anymore where Harvin calls his own shots, nor should it be.

If Harvin is really saying he wants a trade, if I'm Spielman I say that's fine, we'll look at the options, but know that if we don't feel we're getting value on a deal we're not going to pull the trigger just because Harvin wants out, and in that event Harvin will be expected to honor his contract. And I'd back that up with fines and whatever other leverage the Vikings may have in the event that Harvin tries to make the rules.

I really think Harvin is a special player, but he is just a player and ultimately this is about the team. If the Patriots can get a 3rd rounder for a mid-season trade of an over-the-hill Randy Moss, Spielman has to get no less than a high 2nd rounder for Harvin.

The first line in that article reads:
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin has told the team he doesn't want to play for them and wants to be traded, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
So that was clearly the intention, and fairly common practice.

I have more of a beef with Sid Hartman and the other Minnesota sports writers who repeat this same story on an almost weekly basis and pretend that it's news. Other than questions about Harvin posed to Spielman and dodged with the expertise of a PR director, there's been nothing new to this story in months. It's as though these writers have all agreed to take turns blowing it up.

Here's a thought. Trade harvin to Oakland for Moore and a pick, let harvin rot there and sign Wallace. Wallace Moore wright and Simpson. We would be insane

We could have traded him before his little tantrum and threat of holding out last summer, we could have also traded him before the deadline and his little sideline scuffle with Frazier just before being sidelined with an injury. Instead we now have a diva headcase that most teams will figure is a cancer. Let it go any further and he will just get released and we will get next to nothing in return.

Thanks Lord for the info. This was the first time I saw any info about trading Harvin outside of this board. I would love to keep him but we did do fine without him. Well the Walking Dead is starting so I'm done for now.

We can't let him rot anywhere. No team is going to trade for him unless they know they can resign him. Harvin still has some leverage.

Been a Viking/Giant fan for 42 years. Make my Giant side happy. Offer Victor Cruz a 5 year 45 mil deal. Giants don't match and get pick 23 in the first round. The Giants will offer 2nd round pick for Percy. Percy will catch 100 balls for 1500 yds/10 TD's and will be voted to the Pro Bowl. Eli would love the versatility Harvin has to offer. The Vikes would get the wide out they need and both teams benefit in the long run.
