Percy's future w/ Vikings looking uncertain

Re: Percy's future w/ Vikings looking uncertain
I just skimmed the last few pages but wanted to comment on a few things, particularly some of the articles posted.
I think saying the Vikings were better without Harvin, as some writers have alluded to, isn't a fair comparison. Lets face it, the reason the offense was so great down the stretch is because AD went into cyborg beastmode and just destroyed defenses. AD wasn't nearly as productive in the early stretch, as he was limited in carries and probably didn't have his cutting ability back to 100% until 4 games or so into the season. Lets not forget the Packers game where Ponder was not able to complete a single pass to a WR until well into the 4th quarter. Harvin wasn't needed in that game? This team was certainly not better with Harvin on the sidelines.
I also think the parallels to Randy Moss are also very unfair. Moss was the ultimate "I'll play when I want to" receiver. We all saw it. He would take plays off while he was on the field. He wouldn't block at times, give up on routes, etc. Harvin gives it 110% when he's on the field. I can't recall a single event where Harvin looked like he was dogging it while on the field. That's a big difference from Moss.
Granted the off-field issues are a concern but some of this talk is not supported by the efforts I've seen Harvin put forth.

I love these "high ranking Viking sources"
Why would anyone, especially high ranking, give out that kind of information, which could impact greatly if the Vikes try and trade Harvin
Makes zero sense and I would call it BS.

The biggest thing the Vikings have to gain by releasing this is sympathy from their fan base. Most Vikings fans don't want Harvin to be traded (especially for his current trade value) and they blame the team for not getting a deal done. This information sheds light on why the team hasn't gotten to a deal with Harvin yet.Purple bruise wrote:I love these "high ranking Viking sources"Why would anyone, especially high ranking, give out that kind of information, which could impact greatly if the Vikes try and trade Harvin

As far as it hurting his trade value ... I have to think whatever team Harvin was traded to would understand that kind of money he wants before they took him in. It doesn't hurt a trade because this is information a trading team would have anyway and it helps the fan base understand why Harvin hasn't been extended yet.
This makes sense to have come from the team to me.

If they were so concerned about the fan base's opinion they would have jettisoned Ponder when he was going through his mid season slump, yet they stood by him and always said as much despite the fans wanting him benched.

I am certainly not believing that that this is in any way trying to make the fan base happy by explaining Harvin's demands. If it came down to it, I could see, from a publicity point of view, explaining why they traded Harvin. If they were so concerned about the fan base's opinion they would have likely jettisoned Ponder when he was going through his mid season slump, yet they stood by him and always said as much despite the fans wanting him benched.
These demands would scare the crap out of most teams willing to dole out big dollars for him (or so it would seem to me). So yes this type of information, which I still do not believe, would impact a trade. Just sayin....

Better.
Percy Harvin - WR - Vikings
ESPN's Josina Anderson has clarified that Percy Harvin isn't necessarily seeking Calvin Johnson/Larry Fitzgerald money, but that a team source "could see an argument being made" he deserves it.
An ESPN.com report — which referenced Anderson's reporting but was credited to "ESPN.com news services" — made it appear as if it was Harvin, and not the team source, floating the Megatron/Fitzgerald idea. It's a good thing for Harvin's sake that this isn't the bargain he's trying to drive, as such an outrageous demand would have severely limited his market.

Why wouldn't he? He could out play Johnson with only one arm.dead_poet wrote:![]()
Percy Harvin - WR - Vikings
According to a "high-ranking Vikings source," Percy Harvin "expects" an extension similar to the deals recently signed by Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald.
The league's two highest paid receivers, Johnson scored an eight-year, $150.5 million pact last March, while Fitzgerald is entering year three of an eight-year, $128.5 million deal. Megatron's deal includes $60 million guaranteed, Fitz's $50 million. If true, it would certainly explain why the Vikings are at least exploring trading a player who's among the most gifted in the league, but also hot-headed with health question marks. However, it's extremely doubtful Harvin could even approach Fitz and Mega's deals, in Minnesota or elsewhere. We're likely only at the beginning of a long and winding ordeal.

Percy Harvin - WR - Vikings
According to ESPN 1500 Twin Cities, the "word circulating in league circles" is that Percy Harvin wants at least an annual $10 million in his new contract, with the "real goal" perhaps being $12 million or more.
That would make Harvin the league's highest paid receiver not named Calvin Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald. Beat writer Tom Pelissero confirms Harvin's suspected contract demands are a "bigger issue" in trade talks than the draft picks it would take to acquire him. An AFC personnel executive "guesses" the Vikings could get a second- or third-round pick, along with another selection to "sweeten the pot." For his part, Pelissero thinks the situation could still go either way, ending in "reconciliation" with the Vikings or a one-way ticket out of town. Pelissero believes Harvin's unique skill-set, checkered medical history and "well-documented pattern of insubordination" will conspire to limit his market.

Re: Percy's future w/ Vikings looking uncertain
There's been so much written over the last few days about Harvin's attitude problems that the Vikings may not be able to even get a mid second round pick for him. If he's demanding that kind of money, their only choice may soon be to let him play out his contract and renegotiate with him as a free agent, in the likely hope that nobody else is willing to pay him $10M+ per year, either.
Re: Percy's future w/ Vikings looking uncertain
Johnson had more receiving yards this season than any two of Harvin's seasons combined.mrc44 wrote:
AHHAHAHA , i hope you are kidding.

And we're talking about two guys who barely ever miss games, or practices. Who you rarely if ever hear a negative word about, and who both combined for ten one thousand yard seasons...to Harvin's zero. There worst seasons of their careers, their rookie years, are comparable to what Harvin manages in his best.
Gimme a break.

How far did Detroit get in the playoffs last season?Demi wrote:Johnson had more receiving yards this season than any two of Harvin's seasons combined.

Thanks!mrc44 wrote: Good one, too bad Harvin was out half the year and was no help during the race for the playoffs. Good job tho, holy crap some people have gone insane. You are out of your mind. I am just going to discount everything you say from now on since the last several posts I have read of yours have just been ridiculous.

Re: Percy's future w/ Vikings looking uncertain
I think your right about it being the first step in negotiations. Harvin's side will ask for far too much and the Vikings will offer a lower sum. Then both sides will negotiate, causing even more ridiculous rumors to spread, until the find a middle ground, which will still give Harvin big money and yet not rob the bank from the Vikings.Cliff wrote: Hopefully he doesn't actually think he should get paid that kind of money and it's just the first step in a negotiation.

Re: Percy's future w/ Vikings looking uncertain
Blah, so far nothing new. I knew when PH was yelling at Fraizer it was because Ponder cant throw the ball more then 10 feet. Most of PH's yards were YaC, im sure he wanted to be the deep treat he should be if we had a better QB. But theres no way he get Fitz or Megatron type of money. His ego has to calm down this offseaon. And he has to understand his roll as our slot guy. Unless Wright can be that guy and let PH be a wide out.
Re: Percy's future w/ Vikings looking uncertain
I too hope like heck we can keep harvin, and I actually would be okay paying him top WR money as I think he is a top receiver, as well as being the best return man in the NFL. (imo anyway) However he hasn't proven he can handle the kind of work load that comes along with that role and stay healthy. Combine that with the "attitude" stuff and I think a more realistic price tag would be around half as much.Purplemania wrote:
ESPN is on some sort of drugs. 2nd or 3rd round pick only? Yeah right, if Vikings really did decide to trade Harvin he will at least garner a 1st rounder. They're releasing some pretty stupid and incorrect facts at a very quick rate, then when it's wrong they blame it on someone or "the source". Well for what it's worth, I am one of the biggest keep Harvin supporter, but if he believes he's worth 12 mill then good bye my old friend. He is definitely NOT the 3rd best WR in the game too. He's the best play maker at the WR, but in terms of what he brings to the receiving core, he is no where Johnson's league.
